Hello everyone,
(UPDATE! Axon Runners goes free to play!)
Our game was just released a few days ago. Check out the trailer!

I was in charge of Art direction for the project. But I also did a lot of the level lighting, particle FX and rigging / animation for the male character.
Keep an eye on this thread. I will be posting some Model / Texture images soon.
Some specs for those who are curious.
We use Unity for starters, though we replaced the entire rendering system with our own shaders and lighting system.
- The player character uses 3500 Triangles and a single 1024 x 1024 diffuse (no normals)
-Levels use around 40 000 to 70 000 Triangles on average.
-We use Mentalray inside 3dsmax combined with Render to Texture to export 32bit HDRI maps. These are then converted into our own lightmap format that allows for over-bright surfaces.
-Lightmap budget per level averages 2 x 2048 x 2048 with an extra 1 x 1024 x 1024 sheets for background scenery.
-For the environments texture budget tend to be 10 to 15 diffuse 1024 x 1024 maps, half of which come with an additional Glow maps.
Hope you like it.

but regardless! It's really fun to play. I love how you incorporated the surf board type thing and how you can stick to walls and jump and everything. The graphics are GREAT!
I'm still kinda just laughing over here that I bought this game and here you post . What engine did you use and how did you go about making the effects?
I've really been interested in getting into lightmapping lately and don't really know where to begin or how to get it to work (I use Unity). I know they have their own lightmapping built in, but the project I WAS working on didn't work so well for it (it was an endless runner that spawned sections of hallway as you went).
Really great and fun game man
The game runs in Unity, a heavy customized version... We ended up making a custom shader for our lightmaps to support nice over-bright yet still retain full color accuracy in the 0 to 1 range. Anything else past that is stored in the alpha at 1/3rd the precision.
That's the basic explanation of it. My main goal for the lighting was a 1 to 1 comparable output from 3dsmax using Mentalray. So what I see when I do a nice render in 3dsmax is exactly what I get as the final result in engine.
I also don't like the little amount of control that Beast lighting gives you regarding the lightmap atlas.
Glad to hear you like it! tell all your friends, family, close relatives, random folks on the street... um yea
Loving the art style
I have some images for the default skin characters in the game. These models and textures were done by Wendy de Boer AKA DemonPrincess.
Enjoy! Pure diffuse of course.
I also did a good chunk of the level textures and some animations. I'm excited this game is finally out! :poly142:
- BoBo
female's nose and lips look a bit small compared to the head size.
I'm interested in this - I'm working on the Windows Phone platform at the minute and to achieve this I've resorted to dropping the global light multiplier until it no longer clips on the upper limiter and then applying an ambient level to the material used on the world to 1.0f/global light multiplier to unpack the values back into the >1 space. It works great but I'm losing a little dynamic range, though that's mostly covered up by the textures and the (ugh) 16-bit colour depth of WP7 at the minute. I'll have to look into that on my next projects.
Gonna go check it out now.
I will be posting some more images in the next few days. Hope to make some shots of level breakdowns which some folks should fine very interesting.
Snagged some images from the Website blog.
There is a distinct lack of plants in the game... Something I want to fix on future content and maybe retro actively updating previous maps if the time allows for it.
enjoy!
This game and artwork has a lovely stylized clean look to it. It's neat!
We are having a promotional week right now for the game. So with that comes a 50 percent discount!
If you've been curious about the game check out the demo that's just been released.
Enjoy and yes more images comes soon! Demo below
