Slaughter House Asset Creation

Hi all.

I'm helping out Zen Davis with his "Slaughter House" Kickstarter. He's asked me to model some assets which I've listed below:

Sandles
Sneakers
Laptop
Red Plastic Cup
Equipment Racks
Lifeguard Chair
Beach Guards
Canoe
Canoe Stand
Paddles

I'm using this thread to show how I'm doing with the modeling process of each of these items. I'm hoping to have them completed inside of a month. Any feedback would be extremely welcome.

    Started on the canoe instead along with the paddle and canoe stand. Here's the rough base objects but i'm going to use a few more polys in order to add more detail to them.

    I think before making something based on an IP you have no right to use, you need to at least look at some basic modeling videos first and try something a little more... Easy. Theres a reason nobody has posted in this thread.

    Just a friendly heads up before you get shut down, or worse.

    We've been working on this game since December. It's our IP. Are you sure you're not confusing this with another project?

    What was that one game with the huge guy and axe, was on the mega drive then recently on the 360...? I could have sworn that was it.

    But either way yeah, you really need to take it back a notch modeling wise regardless.

    The link in the OP isn't working so I can't verify if this is the same IP or not though...

    I thought I recognized the name too, but I think I was mixing it up with Splatterhouse.

    You've confused our project with "Splatterhouse". That was a 3D action horror title that looked like an awful God of War clone. This is an entirely different IP and we'll be hitting up the horror genre with a bit more nuance. For reference I'll post a bit of our concept art:

    No worries guys. We ran through a number of titles initially and tried thinking of better options than "Slaughter House" (it was a placeholder). These titles ranged from "Dead Summer" to "Friend" to "Duck, Duck, Dead" (one of those was suggested in jest).

    In the end though, "Slaughter House" was the title we kept coming back to. I think we spent over five hour-long creative sessions on Skype going back and forth over titles that would reflect the slasher aspect of our game without sounding too cheesy. Nothing felt right like "Slaughter House".

    I was particularly pushing "Friend" for a while there but the other team members weren't going for it. I thought it would be really cool to explore a friendship angle with a near supernatural serial killer, but we ended up deciding that naming the game "Friend" would limit the scope of what were trying to achieve.

    What platform will this be for (sorry if you pointed that out and I missed it)? I am curious because of the polycount. Also, looking at your references, I feel that the lip of the canoe frame should be roughly 2/3 the width that it currently is, but I guess it depends on which canoe you are choosing to stick closer to. I see one is older than the other. Are the canoes supposed to be older, or newer?

    to be honest Alex the canoe's going through a bit of a redesign, i'll keep you posted.

    Started working on the sandals and I've made some good progress on it, here's some pictures.

    The poly count is a bit high though. Anyone got any suggestions on how to bring it down?

    Is this going to be commercial game? if so your models are basically useless because you use student version.

    Model the clasps as simple boxes. Don't chamfer the sides of the straps. Pay attention to the silhouette. Realize that the smaller a shape, the less detail it needs.

    I'll work you up an example.


    Also, Ivanzu makes a very very important point. If you're making money off of this, you need a full license of Max.

    the clasps are way high in count, and are quite useless... id model them as bozes as said before

    thanks for the advice guys, i've gotten the model down to under 350 polys now.

    and also thanks for the warning about the student software, i'm going to try and find some places that sell max cheaper than what autodesk is offering.

    Does anyone know any good places to look?
