Mayan statue built for a texture class. I know its higher poly than needed, but the teacher wanted us to be as close to 4k as possible. Comments and critiques welcome
Looks good man, the only thing I can say is ya, polycount is a little high like u said. Good work, looks like ur textures are pretty solid, got any T-pages to show?
The problem isn't so much that it's a high polycount, but that you're not getting the most out of it. You could have modeled most of the crevices between the top bricks, I think. Can we see some wires?
I'm with snader, not seeing those polygons used so much. But I think reference is a bigger issue. It seems based on one of the Olmec head statues (not mayan, whole different group of people). Those have detailed helmets, all around detail. So I feel that just throwing that whole area away with a brick wall on a cylinder is a poor choice.
I agree with the polys not being pushed where they could be, most of them honestly were an after thought to get me to that 4k limit, I m a low poly modeler at heart, so I need a little practice pushing the polys where it is needed. As for Ref, This is loosely based on this concept art--- http://frankvanderwel.blogspot.com/2012/03/mayan-head-sculpture.html
Thank you guys so much for the input, I will post wires soon, its finals at school, ugh, so much work to do!
