TF2 - Polypack - Kirb

Hey guys. Been lurking Polycount for years, don't post much. Plan to do a lot of posting in the future.

Decided to go Sniper, as I have something like 160+ hours logged in on'm.

Did some silhouettes, here's the final versions I decided on. I thought of one primary weapon and two secondaries, based on the Sniper's motto.

In case you are wondering, the third one is a Australian tribal boomerang with a stick of dynamite duct-taped to it.

Going to do some color schemes, then take it all into Maya and start building.

Very modern looking, remember it has to fit in with TF2's 1950s(ish) styling.

I would prefer that you hide the dynamite more behind the boomerang. You may not see it in a silhuette, but it makes the boomerang more dynamic and gives him a secret "aha"-effect:

What's that ? Ah... just a Boomerang... wait a second... what the F**BOOM*!

Agreed to Ryu and dickless. Make sniper rifle just a bit less modern, try different versions of trigger and handle. Also it looks a pain to hold, where would he put his left hand? on the giant saw? dont think so

Haha, good suggestions. I figured people would have some good critiques on the guns, so I figured I'd model them last. I'll do some rework on the guns, I thought the profiles looked a little too modern myself. (And maybe moving the saw up a bit so he doesn't cut his hand.)

The dynamite, I'll experiment with. The silhouette wouldn't be as dynamic, but I guess I'd have to see how the model would look from the player's perspective.

Whats the use for the saw anyway? You couldnt really thrust with it and cutting would be akward. Move it to the front and maybe shorten the barrel so the end of the saw sticks out a bit? Just something you might want to consider

Thats a pretty beastly boomerang you have there Kirb. The textures look good and match the TF2 pretty well with the only exception being the dynamite, it looks like you putt too much fine detail into it and as a result it seems to stand out against the rest of the model. Also you probably could extrude the tape up so it has some thickness, here is a pic of the tap on the Razorback for comparison. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the critique! I was wondering about the detail in the dynamite myself. I'll tone down the scratches on the dynamite a tad and see if I can't extrude the tape a little.

I still need to figure out a decent way to get the TF2 models into maya, actually.

I'm loving the concept of the Boomstick but it seems a wee bit bland. Dynamite doesn't have a TF2ish look to it and, well, the boomerang itself just seems a bit unkept. *shrug* IDK, I can't think of a specific gripe for the boomerang itself but it just seems.... off. Sorry for the non-specific feedback.

I dunno if I agree with you there... dynamite can be found in the payload cart, and the Demoman's weapon was a bundle of dynamite in the early testing for TF2. Unless you meant Kirb's particular model of dynamite, of course.

with tf2s textures you can see the brush strokes, and while your texture looks good i think you could push it a bit further. i love the idea man.

Duoxan, you're right, I think I need to make the brushstrokes more noticeable. Hopefully that'll add some extra variation to the boomerang texture.

Or maybe I could add a pattern to it...
