It doesn't look very Mass Effect, thats the first thing that hit me. It looks very generic Sci Fi, which isn't an issue, but it was something the third game had an issue with. They seemed to move away from the nice designs they had there, and moved more into looking like everything else.
Now, that aside, this asset is rather lovely Theres a seam on his back that stuck out, but once I saw the face I was like "say wha...? Thats UDK?". The eyes are very well done, they looked real even, and the hair/stubble, I have to ask... HOW?
The face looks amazingly real. I think that's the best face I've seen in UDK yet. I've not played mass effect 3 though. It almost makes the rest look CG, as if it's footage/CG composite. Awesome work man.
awesome stuff man!
only complaints i would have would be the missing knee-caps on his armor and he could have a couple more hairs on his face, but i suppose thats just my personal preference.
Holy crap that face is awesome. I agree about needing knee armor and there is something weird about the lower leg, they almost look like prosthetics. Very thin after the gastros. Maybe they are though, either way just nitpicking, awesome work.
The face looks amazing! But everything else really pales in comparison and brings the asset down. The armor is very obviously sculpted. It's blobby and there are no clean shapes.
Could you post some pics without the armor on. It looks like his knees are missing-- Also, his arms look a little odd...I'm not sure if this is a reflection of the design (armor and suit)... or an anatomy problem.
Example: His biceps. The back of the suit looks very tight and I can see the triceps, but the front part looks strange-- is the suit baggy or does he have lumpy biceps?
Design wise, Tighten up the contours and shapes as stated above. The lights on the back are very wobbly as well-- sharpen these up a bit and give them a strong shape. Lastly, you might want to consider adding some type of knee guards similar to what's on the elbows.
This is really good and with a few more iterations will be amazing!
I really really love this character's design and overall feel. Most things have already been pointed out to. But i was still wondering about one thing. Thinking of actually usage of the armor and looking at the images with helmet on. The helmet looks like a solid helmet without any flex parts. Now with that in mind and seeing that the bottom is directly against the jaw and chin i wonder how he communicates. If it is indeed solid then he wouldn't be able to move his mouth like that so talking it out of the question then. Just something i was wondering about.
Those renders from UDK are just amazing. I've been searching for a simple guide or tutorial to setting up such a render, but couldn't find one anywhere. Anybody know of one? The two links in the wiki have me believe that it's required to input commands into the console and use Kismet, both are new to me. There seems to be a lot off little tips and tricks for high quality renders.
My god.... this is just amazing!!!
I really love the face! It's really has a personality. Congratz!!!
Some more insight in your shader and hair stuff would be nice
I think the only thing that really catches my eye that I didn't notice before is that he has no exposed ankles. His shins kinda go straight in to his shoes, which seems kinda awkward, other than that it's still looking pretty sweet.
Wow, this is the first time I have seen a character and thought "shit next gen gaming is here!"
Fantastic work, can you share your lighting set up and hair, I really am flabbergasted
well done!
the lighting have a tick , turn off Lighting enviorment, is ruin all, it just for gameplay, for cinematic turn off is much better ,for sure cost ligthing, but for this one i don;t care :$ the hair, i learn form this guys http://forums.epicgames.com/threads/...le-strips-quot-)
Looks more like a slightly cartoonish Crysis than Mass Effect. His proportions are slightly odd, a bit too top heavy rather than the sleek, kind of Apple look ME had going for it. The helmet looks too tall as well.
That being said, for a tiny bit cartoonish Crysis it looks awesome, spectacularly detailed!

Looking forward to the finished result!

Great work.
His hair is awesome.
You're awesome.
Fantastic Work regardless
when the contest is done can we get a break down? I love the work here but I'm more curious about the presentation Ex: shaders, post effect, fx, etc.

Did little bit more today and a small breakdown about Unreal Dx 11 stuff
