Since this seems to be a very common topic that pops up quite often in General Discussion, we decided to keep all education related questions consolidated into one thread. Not only will this keep the boards from cluttering up with redundant topics, but it will allow users to find all the information they need in one place.
Below is a list of some past education related threads and some outside resources. If you know of any others that should be included, shoot us a PM and we'll be sure to add it in.
Thanks to Nerf Bat Ninja for compiling some of these in a recent thread, which is being shamelessly copied and pasted into this sticky.
Hmm... just had a read through my old thread in that list (Art Education - What Should I Do?) and I don't necessarily stand by everything I said back then. If anyone wants my thoughts on that course in particular (Portsmouth Uni) then feel free to drop me a PM
I am looking for an animation institute in India for game programming. Can anybody suggest some reputed institutes?
Have heard about few institutes through some of my friends when i was looking for similar courses for my bro. Bangalore is the place i would suggest though.
You could choose between- DSK>AIGA>ICAT.
Nice article...Both educational links as well as other sources are given together. And it depends on the artist to execute his name in a way he wants to. He can make it educational with a exciting twist or complete fun.
It depends on the person making the game.

hi razor,
i did check out AIGA.. seems very good but still keeping my options open.
They have very good infrastructure.
Had a chat with a few students and they seemed happy with the place.
Spoke to a faculty member as well.. He seems very experienced.
All good so i will be joining the Apr Batch for Game Programming course.
Hello! i wonder if anyone can help me with an advice or maybe someone had relevant experience.
I've been working in game industry for several years now as a 3d-modeler.
Have high education in art, all 3-d stuff - self-taught.
What i want to do next is to transition my career from game industry into movies and television.
Concentrate mostly on composing and visual effects.
Also it would be awesome to be able to work abroad (i myself from Eastern Europe).
So i decided its about time to get some professional training.
After spending some time looking for decent educational programm i came across Vancouver film school.
So, i wonder if anybody have studied there, especially the"One Year 3D Animation & Visual Effects Program"?
or maybe in my case this is wrong place?
I've made some further investigation and found Lost Boys Studios in Vancouver.
Seems to be a way better place to study and gain experience.
Maybe somebody studied there by any chance?
Would be great to hear some opinions on that
and will be grateful for any kind of info!
A lot of people who wish to end up in game design and development actually use Quality Assurance as the backdoor to their main goal. I've been working in Gaming QA for 7 years now and a number of designers and coders who joined our team as testers have now moved into their actual area of expertise. Thought it would be worth a mention in this thread. Cheers!
I have a long term goal of being a concept artist since concept artist positions are few and far between. I'm currently about to obtain my AS in Digital Media with a Certificate in Video Game Foundations. I'm ultimately hoping to enroll into FIEA (Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy) which I need a BA for 1st.
My question is, should I pursue a BA in some form of art to hone my skills and show my passion for art or should I pursue a BA in Video Game Development which would give me the knowledge necessary to work in the video game industry?
Hello every One....
I am new here so just while reading I as stuck in this topic as many important things are being shared which is beneficial to all...
In my opinion the biggest advantage going to uni is to build a network, since the techinical stuff are all available for us in the internet, keep in touch with people working into the industry and some other contacts should be very helpfull.
There are professions that must require a degree (Med School, Law School and many others), it seems it's not the case with CG people so far.
Btw, University in the game industry is like the Messi x Ronaldo discussion, the day people decide who is better will never come
