I'm running into a problem with visual tools, since I have that menu in a dock. Really, with tools like Polygon Subdivide I don't see why we even need them, but in the cases where we might need a visual interface, does it need to be linked to the visual tool window? I'm trying to get away from that by making my own user window.
Hi there IStonia - I am planning to take some time this weekend to give the app another go , but there's something I noticed right away even before really using the program and I wanted to point it out : the default Maya-like navigation scheme in Nvil is getting the zoom behavior wrong. I think it might not affect right handed people, but as a lefty it's the first thing I noticed
Basically, this :
Some programs like 3DCoat have very in-depth options regarding the mapping of the X and Y axis, but in the case of Nvil i think it's just a matter of making the default work exactly like Maya, and have some "invert axis" tickboxes for those who really want something non-conventional.
Also - is there a simple user manual or quickstart guide somewhere ? I am sure I can figure out most of it but I'd love to be able to have some reference document so that I don't miss something obvious, especially when it comes to UI/UX customization (right off the bat there are a lot of UI elements that I want to turn off, but I have no idea how).
Summary of changes:
* Edit > Preference > Options > Allow bridging between holes with different number edges.
* Edit > Preference > Options > Left/Up zoom out.
Thanks!
Hi Pior, I have made the zoom out/in customizable. The only doc I have is the help file, Help > Contents. I don't know what kind of UI customization you are after. But you can create your own tool bars. View > windows > User Tool Windows.
Summary of changes:
* "Edit > Preference > Options > Allow bridging between holes with different number edges" is moved to "Edit > Options > Allow Bridging Holes of Different Edge Number". It also works on polygon bridging operation.
* Angle threshold options is added to 'polygon mode > Selection > Concave/Convex Quads'.
* Scene Explorer context menu > Set As Morph Target.
* Brush morph tool is added to visual Tweak tool and basic streamline tools.
Thanks!
if you close the visual tool window all togeather visual tools should appear as a floating popup.
Ah, you're right. As mentioned though, I had the visual tool window in a tab, perhaps that should bring up a popup as well, or switch to said tab?
also, quick question: streamline tools only exist for verts, edges and faces, is there a technical reason they can't exist for meshes or objects? I'm thinking of shell for instance, which currently only exists as a visual tool, while it'd be quite useful as a streamline tool, with the mouse-movement controlling shell thickness and mousewheel adding cuts.
I'm also currently trying to get a radial menu for materials. I'd like to display seperate materials inside of it, with a little preview of each, would that be possible?
Summary of changes:
* Circularize tool is improved. To toggle spacing style, tap Space key. To toggle surface style, tap Caps Lock key.
* A basic streamline tool shell tool is created. It works on object/mesh/vertex/edge/polygon modes.
Thanks!
Circularise no longer seems to work on edges or verts, only faces. I haven't managed to test the rest of the improvements yet, but I'll let you know what I think
Summary of changes:
* Polygon basic streamline tools, Extrude/Inset, are improved. To change the grouping style during the operation, tap Caps Lock key.
* Some bug fixings on the circularize tool.
Thanks!
Can I replace the current icons at the bottom of the viewport? (subobject modes and grid/shading/wireframe etc)
I've got replacement icons made. Ideally I'd like to customise it further than that, though, and display other icons there. I find myself not using any of them, really, but for visual consistency I'd like to theme them

im so glad you have the time to do all these UI tweaks and suggestions, and icons Mighty, something i been wanting to do my self since it came out, i just sturggle to find time for it.
I struggle to find the time as well, so any sketches and ideas would be welcome. Most of the time goes into finding the right design for a button, the actual construction is the easy part
I could also share the psd, I'm doing all of this with vector shapes in Photoshop. Not sure if it'll be compatible with anything below cs6 since they added so much vector-related changes.
Summary of changes:
* Composite Tool feature is added. It is a kind of tool containing a list of other tools chosen by user. It makes it possible to execute a list of tools by one click. For detailed information, see Help > Contents > Modeling > Composite Tools.
Thanks!
Istonia: It slides surrounding loops towards and away from the selection. It's perfect for tweaking the hardness of sub-d edges!
If you have one loop selected it moves the surrounding two loops in or outwards.
If you have two loops selected side by side, it does the same thing as if there was another edgeloop inbetween them.
Kun: No difference at all! Well, I suppose the third one shows automatic loop selection, but I don't want that myself. So does the second one, but again: I don't really see a purpose for that.
If people want that, it can very easily be set up with a simple macro. On the topic of which: thank you for making those ease to create! A graphical interface is a wonderful thing for that type of functionality.
Summary of changes:
* Some bug fixings.
* A new Option. Edit > Options > Equal Chamfer Amount. This option is related to edge Chamfer and shoulder style Extrude operations. The default behavior may give skewed result in some cases and this option may give an expected result.
Thanks!
Summary of changes:
* Slice operation is improved. While drawing slice line, to move slice line, press down Space key. To move slice line in horizontal/vertical/OwnDirection, use Space+Shift/Ctrl/(Shift+Ctrl). It applies to all visual and streamline slice operations.
* Edit > Preference > Options > Surface align is circularize default option.
Thanks!
Summary of changes:
* Circularize tool is improved. If saved transform is presented, it will be used to control the deforming.
* Select Similar Facing works on multi selection.
* Edit > Customize Tools > Common Shortcut Tools > Close Application.
* "Polygon Snapping" enabled is linked to 'Edit > Options > Ignore Wired/Transparent Polygon On Selection'. This can be used to disable polygon snapping on wired/transparent meshes.
Thanks!
Summary of changes:
* Two new basic streamline tools, Edge_DoubleLoop_Slide_Adj/OffCenter. For more info, see Help > Contents > Modeling > StreamLine Tools > Streamline Basic Tool Specifications.
* View > Object Shading > Show Object Pivot In Object/Mesh/Subobject mode.
Thanks!
Summary of changes:
* Some bug fixings.
* Edit > Options > Subobject Selection Center Is Bounding Box Center. By default it is the selection's mass center.
* Edge double loop slide tools is improved. To change style between Edge/Edges/Curve, tap Space key.
* Basic streamline tool "Slide Selection (Linear)" is removed because "Slide Selection" can have the same behaviour by tapping Space key.
* The other edge loop slide tools also can change style between Edges/Curve by tapping Space key.
Thanks!
I'm curious to see how this goes as I was using voidworld when you had it free for fun. If this is cheap for pc members or free I'd use it. Like the others said I would get it on steam.
Summary of changes:
* Edit > Preference > Clip Plane > App auto set far plane base on scene geometry. The application set far plane value according to "App auto set" option, then if the "App auto set far plane base on scene geometry" Option is checked and the far plane value calcualted from scene geometry is bigger than the "App auto set" far plane value, "App auto set far plane base on scene geometry" far plane value will be used.
* Clipboard files now are saved in "C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\DigitalFossils\NVil\Media\Clipboard".
* Some bug fixings.
Thanks!
Summary of changes:
* Spline_Surface tool is improved. 4 open splines can be selected to create Coon's surface. Also, to use control points, scroll segment value down to 0.
Thanks!
