A way to show a model in zbrush when ctrl+n doesn't work?

Can someone help me with a really ignorant question? I seem to have lost my model in the viewfinder. I hit 'f', ctrl+n, in fact, not even a default subtool will show up. I cant seem to find a way to bring up anything in the viewport despite it showing up in the subtool palette (see below)

Drop out of Edit mode and check your Draw settings. You'll want MRGB and Z-Add to both be on, with their intensity set to 100.
In particular you get this effect when Z-Add is off.
