[UE4] Underground Subway System

Hello all!

It's a been a bit since I've posted with some new work. I am in the middle of subway underground scene as of late. Still working on a ton of things and planning to extend the tunnel after I get the lighting I am after. Haven't tweaked the post process to much either yet but this is part of a bigger project I will be working on in my free time in the next couple months.

Looks great Clinton! Are your walls and curb pieces one solid mesh? Or is that clever placement of geometry decals?

Right now I have it designed to be entirely modular with everything running along a spline in UE4 blueprint. Its all tied into the same spline that places pieces randomly pending the set. Wall pieces, electrical boxes, etc. Ill post more of the spline breakdown as I get further in

I was thinking about adding a door or entry point somewhere along the tunnel. Just gotta figure out how to include those junction points in the bp.

Looks like something out of Metro:2033, very nice. The only thought I have is to possibly put lights on the opposite side of the tunnel. Other than that it is quite wonderful.

How are you doing the unwrapping and materials in the scene, are you using 1 to 1, trim, or UVW?

Trying to keep everything optimized and using 1-2 draw calls. Also sectioning everything for a good light bake per piece. The walls and floors are using a vert painted material. The other assets are mostly texture paged together. The sheets using some unique and some tiling trims to make up the shapes. Ill do a much more thorough breakdown closer to the end of the project

This is pretty cool and echoes similarly to what Rogelio Olguin just finished with his Black Mesa Project.

Amazing lighting and composition as usual. Great and inspiring work.

Wrapping up everything and here is my results! This is part 1 of 2 for my subway development. Ill post some more images soon of part 2 that I have started as well. Also ill give a bit of a breakdown to the tunnel setup from maya soon.

super cool, spawning things along splines that you can quickly edit is an insane time saver. the roads in watchdogs 2 used a similar setup where all the sidewalk props, decals, walls etc were spawned along the spline using ranges, so if the road moved, everything updated cleanly.

a great example of working smarter not harder.

Yes pending how many of each asset you assign per slot, the mesh is instanced in randomly each time.
