First Animation Feedback

Hi guys! I started a bachelors in animation and a friend of mine recommended me this forum for the amazing feedback all of you give. So I decided to give it a try and show you my work   Although these are my first animation tries, I would love to get feedback on what could be improved because I am really motivated to improve both my art and my animation skills  Thanks for the constructive criticism and feedback in advance  Here are my two videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7huG6IRZqM and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpDxDqUdSOs

    Hey.

So your anticipation and timing is really nice on your squirrel and it looks really good. There's just a few things I can suggest to (I think) take it to the next level:

    - So on the way back down, your squirrel goes back into a ball. And while that is fine for a ball haha, a squirrel sorta thing would probably stay in the bean shape that it arced over as (which is a nice pose).

    - If you were to keep the bean shape,I'd also have the squirrel land on the front, roll to the pose that you've got and then go from the back and into the air. Give a bit more variety to the jump. It's gonna be a few more frames to draw, but just one frame on the landing and one frame on the take off should make the animation feel a bit smoother. I'm not one hundred percent sure on that now that I'm imagining it, but I think it would make the animation look a lot less like a ball and more like an animal haha.

For your first animations? You're doing really well. Keep it up!

Awwww , thank you so much for the advice!!! I think you're right. If I add a frame for the landing where the front is touching the floor and a frame for the take off when the back is touching the floor it'll look more like a jumping animal and less like a dropped bean  :D I will certainly give it a try!!!

This is our next group project. We had to sync it with music and experiment with textures. I did only the part after the orange bean appears. Could I have done anything better??? https://youtu.be/S3nagaDH62U

    Hi fellow polycounter!

Very good job with the squirrel animation. I would as well as "Forever" strongly recommend that you add more frames. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with a ball shaped squirrel from my opinion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RxLpsuiQP0&index=5&list=PL6f_1l1ybQdMFMSqQ1CX3VEjDRwl5oeo4 ...In this video you can see that the animator does the same with his squirrel.

Also if you add more frames you can also apply more of the 12 principles of animation, like for example squash and stretch on the way down as well. There is really not much to say. Just add more details by adding more frames.

    Keep up the good work
    Best regards

Thanks for the advise! I am wondering, however, once I add more frames should I try to make it on 1s or should I keep it on 2s?

Hmm I might be a bit to tired right now but I´m not sure what you mean by making it on 1s or keeping it on 2s, sorry x)

Basically whether I should continue putting up each image for 2 frames or whether I should put every image for one. Usually animators do it on twos because the human eye cannot distinguish the difference but often times when it's done on 1s it's a little smoother. I am asking because if I add more frames and keep doing it on 2s the movement will slow down and it may stop feeling as fast. But to be fair if I draw more frames I can just do it on 1s anyway. After all , usually 2s are used just to save time from drawing too many frames but if I'm drawing them anyway I can change it whenever I want ^^'

Ohh ok I see :) Yeah better do it on 1s, might be a bit harder but I´m sure you got it, you have after all made fine animations ;)
