Warhammer 40k Inquisitor pistol

Hey everyone!

WIP for the w40k pistol I'm doing! Not a 100% reproduction of an "existing" pistol from this universe. Just trying to do it with more realistic proportion than the ones in the tabletop game or artwork!

A lot of engraving will be done on it, probably going to follow Scott Homer's Harry potter spell book breakdown as a guide!

Don't really know, I will probably aim for a reasonable state or wear, being for an inquisitor, I guess it would be pretty kept in good shape . Will see

Really good start. How did you approach the engravings? I'm really liking the ones that run along the pistol grip, but I might tone down how many you're using on the sides of the gun. To me it feels too uniform across the surface, so I might break it up with a less detailed area as a visual rest.

Quite simple, just ''outline'' the shapes, extrude and voila! Good point on this, I'll tweak this before finishing the high, thanks!

Awesome! So you modelled all the engravings? The metal looks good but I'd add some muzzle burn to the end of the barrel I think. Taking into account the 40K universe I'd go for 'ornate but worn' and add some battle damage, since inquisitors are very likely to see actual combat. Maybe discolouring the almost pristine gold and cracking/staining the grip? Can't blame you if you don't want to dirty it too much, as it's very nice looking as it is right now

Yep, all modeled, not the most efficient way to do it I guess, just wanted to do it.
I'll see what I can do to add a little more! But yeah I was really on the fence with this one, I often tend to weather my models on the heavy side, and for once I told myself to restrain a little bit haha!

I would guess a standard guardsmen rifle would be very beat up, but I don't expect a common inquisitor to crouch in trenches etc, a light/medium weathering is what I had in mind for this one.

Nothing wrong with modelling the engraving, probably the best way come to think of it as you can sample the curvature/AO etc. with actual geometry. Light wear sounds good.
