Hello every one.:poly121:

I've been doing some low poly modelling for a moment now and I never relay shown it to some actual pros, so this will be my first!

So her is my question: this is my latest low poly modelling. It is around 1100 tris and a 512 normal map and diffuse plus a 256 alpha map.

How can I improve that and keep the same constraints ?:)
BTW it is supposed to run under unity for IOS / android

Best regards to all of you.

welll, if I were being picky

the main thing is to watch your Map seams - the ankle area is obvious, as is the belly

you could probably clear out a few tris in the neck and face that you'll never see in sillhouette and use them on the shoulders / calves to round it off a bit

do you really need the alpha? it's very expensive to render on phones

overall though - I think it's really rather good. I have several minions that I wish were capable of this sort of quality.

    Ok I'll try that.

As for the alpha, this is the less expensive way I found to punch holes into the melted skin. Maybe there is a better way?

Here is the original concept art for you to get the idea:

As you can see,I might be wrong but it looks like there is no way around this floppy melted skin.

(Ho! And I need to correct the colors too if I want to match the concept art ;) )

From which direction is the camera going to be looking?

It will be an Isometric kind of camera, so 3/4, top view, hack n' slash style.

    something like that:

From that angle id just paint the holes in the diffuse as black. On even an ipad youll probably never see them bigger than a pixel anyway.

Im not that experienced on unity as we use a propriety engine at work but as a rule it seems the only time its really cheaper to use alpha than a mesh on phones is for stuff like foliage.

    ok!
that is the best I can come up with on this time schedule.

tell me what you think of it!
I know there is some seems issues I was unable to overcome (and I would be curious to know how you do it) but it's pretty fine to me ^^

    Have a look :

What about vertex colors? Is that an option?

Also, how limited are you in terms of memory/storage space?

I only have a few information on the technical side of things since I'm doing that for a test for a job so I would say that for the memory/storage the lighter is the better.

As for vertex paint, I relay don't know. And to be quit honest, I don't relay know what is it good for... a reminder would be great though.
