Hello all,

I've decided to make some items for the Heavy, the theme will be 'Mexican'. "But wait," you say, "the Heavy isn't Mexican, this makes no sense." You're right, but when you think about it maybe it's the only thing that will ever make sense and everything else is just wrong.

Anyhow... The three ideas I have are (I haven't thought of any cool names yet) :

The Sombrero
Straw hat with a little bit of team colours thrown in, similar to this minus the weird looking dude:

Taco
Tasty meat filled replacement for the Sandvich:

Shotgun variant
I haven't decided exactly what I'm doing with it yet, was thinking maybe a decorated shotgun, similar to the ambassador, or an old rusty worn one.

I've already been working on the models for the Sombrero and Taco and will post the progress tomorrow.

    Gave him a mustache as well, not sure if I'll keep it though.

    Buck, any reason why you think it'd suit the pyro more? I thought the Sombrero would fit nicely with the heavy's ammo belt.

    The pyro already has the Whiskered Gentleman, so I think this is fine.

    Hmm I don't know why everyone thinks you cant do 2 different weapons for the same slot.
    Pick a single Team Fortress 2 class and create a minimum of three custom items for them. These items can be made up of any combination of weapons (melee, primary, secondary), Engineer buildings and/or hats.

    Valve did it themselves with the Sniper vs Spy update :).

    Damo is right, Monkeez is wrong. What valve meant when they said any combination is you could choose primary, secondary and hat. or Building, hat and primary. not hat, hat, hat :)

    Well ok that sucks :(. What if I were to do 4 weapons and 2 were in the same slot? Do you think that'd still break the rules?

    Pinata stick is a cool idea except it would need new animations, I guess I need to find an item which can be used with the punch animations he already has.

    Cinco de mayo skulls!

    He could bash them into his enemies with the punch animation. Don't give up on the taco though! That's shaping up to be quite the awesome item.

    keep moustache as a misc item, add in a cigar ala photo. maybe. ;)


    and while spicy may fit pyro better, the taco is clearly in the heavy's domain, and the sombrero works quite well.

    Long time no updates, I've made the heavy maracas for melee weapons and I have also finished modeling the shotgun I was working on. Unfortunately I don't have access to them right now but I have the updated progress on the taco:

    Texture is pretty well done bur will probably be making tweaks once I get it in game.

    I'll post the shotgun and maracas tomorrow.

    since you can't do a second secondary, how about a primary? or if you wanted to go the easy way you could make the moustache a misc item (I believe that counts)
    I don't really know how maracas would look without custom animations...since heavy uses fist.

    I was going to do custom animations for the maracas, I've pretty well figured out how to get them into the game. Also animation is my primary skill and there's only a few short animations to do.

    The model for the taco looks great so far! You never see anyone pack a taco that full at restaurant... probably because it would be super messy, but I'm drooling just thinking of a taco with that much filling. :-)

    I've heard that for sandvich replacements, that you need to do a modified model with a bite taken out of it... I'm not sure if this is actually true, though. I'd love to hear a big, satisfying CRUNCH when Heavy takes a bite of that.

    Yup I've got a model with a bite taken out, only problem is when I try set it up for in game it just loads both of them on the top of each other :S. It's not a massive problem though, I can just test each one separately and let valve sort it out.

    Is there a tutorial anywhere for particles? I've never looked at them in the source engine.

    Looks fantastic. When I think "Heavy" Mexico is one of the last things that comes to mind, but this is working fabulously.

    Eh, not too good for heavy IMO, but they would make a great hat for Spy!

    Hello all,

    I still am in fact working on this even though I haven't updated the thread in a long while.

    Psyke: Yeah the KGB makes the hands disappear, I found the solution though. The game_items.txt script file had a line in it saying to hide the hands when the KGB is equipped.

    SirCannonFodder: Thanks, I first thought of the Mexican heavy idea as a joke with my friend but I think it works really nice with his bandoleer.

    Khthon: Haha, well I'll probably have time to do one. What do you reckon it'd look like?

    Viceroy Bubbles: I like your minigun mockup :). I would have liked to do a minigun but I couldn't think of anything that fit the theme.

    I've got the maracas in game with custom viewmodel animations, they don't have any spec on them yet which I'll be doing tomorrow.

    The maracas are looking nice but I think some more color variation would improve them greatly. Some thick yellow or green stripes would make them much more intersting in my opinion.
