The Titans made chariots so quick it was hard to find beasts fast enough to pull them, and so they abandoned the beasts and made giant vehicles that moved with their own power.
Brütal Legend rocks my world. So I'm making some fan-art. More specifically a car in the lines of the Druid Plow. Not a Hiboy like the Deuce, but a T-Bucket with ridiculous proportions and engine.
Here's some drawings I've been doing the past days, pens and markers:
(scans dull the colors down a lot, the blue in the chrome is almost gone)
I want to put it into Unreal and do some sort of scene with epic, metal style backdrop and sky. I also kinda want to do a speed monster demon kinda guy to drive it, I think I'll draw him next.

Heres a pic of a supercharged hot rod. Hope you see what I'm blabbing about.
Great work dude!
I actually laughed out loud when I first saw that picture. I can't even imagine how it works: one blower per 4 cylinders or something ? And how the F. does it get so damn high? Either way, it's so ridiculous and over the top I think it fits the bill nicely. You know, the Deuce in Brutal Legend has 16 exhausts, now THAT is just too much
Here's a 1-hour blockout I did to look for spacing and proportions in 3D:
Also... what, no fuzzy dice?
Steering still needs some parts. Polycount is going up scarily fast, almost 8000.
Built a brutal Hemi 540 engine with transmission, decided to go for one blower since two reminded me of bunny ears too much. This engine took about 6 and a half hours to build
Did some lowpoly work on the front also, built steering a bit more.
I'm gonna bother you on msn now about it.
:poly124:
Flaagan approves. :poly142:
My only crit is I think the spike things in the front could be made more menacing...
I bet I need better rendersettings Some 15 min fun:
The other thing - for all the really fine detail like the spokes and extremely thin metal rods on the steering - are these going to be rendered to planes on the low-poly version - otherwise can see the polycount being huge on the low-poly.
Love the engine - can't wait to see it dirtied up and the paintjob on the body.
Its maybe not really important, but I don't really see the theme of Brutal Legend in your concept.
And BTW, thanks for the 3ds max viewport shaders!
Question : the engine looks high poly but the car looks alot lower, is this going to be the high poly model for baking down?
GCMP: the important and big stuff will have highpoly. Engine, wheels, body, fueltank and grille probably. The rest isn't really worth creating highpoly for other than showing off here I just need to do the grille highpoly and finish the fueltank, wheels and body are done. A few other small things might also pop up while i'm busy finishing the low.
Wil post update soon, gotta go now!
I think I'm gonna have to do the front brakes in HP as well. It's gonna be hard, barely any ref on them.
Lowpoly, nearing completion. It's at 17.500 tri's now, 20.000 is the limit.
Timewise i'm at 19 hours so far, for modeling only. This thing really is a lot of work!
Normals baked, I'm very pleased with this
Matballz shader is awesome for displaying normalmaps only (the engine and other details are matballz, body and wheels my shader), too bad it uses the normalmap in a weird way that creates seams.
edit: I just calculated that baking all normals took me over 8 hours just tweaking cages and everything :x Is it just me or is this just such a tedious process ?
Looking forward to seeing some grit here and there..
I made the wheel textures today:
The rubber is all good, except for maybe some more colorvariation needed on the Firestone text. The metal might need a bit more work, especially the rear wheel's chrome center hubcap.
The total thing with AO on the engine and details:
whats_true; they're not renders, but viewport grabs. Turning up AA there is a bit tricky, it tends to look blurry.
Great shape and details, I love it
Only thing that looks a little wierd is the hubcap on the rear wheels.
Arac, I agree. it's been bothering me a lot. That's one of the tweaks I have to still do, together with the blurry dirt on the windshield.
The only thing that I would love to see is some extra tris spent on your front tires and the gas tank on the back of the vehicle. You have all of these lovely lines and a great silhouette and those stick out like a 10 pound sore thumb.
