So some backstory why I opened this account and started this sketchbook. For the duration of my studies so far I have been doing programming and VFX, but now want to have a look at Level Design and Environment Art.
Keeping the VFX however.

Okay so here is the project I will be working on for the next couple of months trying to get into the whole pipeline of Environment Art. So any feedback is heavily appreciated. All those tips and tricks

I decided to approach it with the guidance of Jacob Norris' guide on Modularity ( CLICK )

This is what I got after 2 days of modelling. It consists of 3 modular pieces and the pillar, which kinda makes 4. The texture is pretty much easily exchangeable which will hopefully help on keeping the workload as low as possible without the user taking note of repetition.

This time the Porduction Quality Lightbake actually did a good job

Should have tested that before doing the final video

So what I want to try for my next selfmade environment is to have all kinds of textures combined on 1 mastertexture, but several UV's for each mesh just different from each other in Shell position on the UV.

tl;dr 1 Texture 4k and tons of meshes to optimize performance for VR and have only 1 Texture for all housetiles

I guess it is not gonna look as quite as fancy it could, but that is totally fine considering that it is gonna be for VR after all and for that reason the performance matters a lot

We'll see how it turns out

So I started another approach using substance. we will see about performance I guess, but results are just unbeatable for now. If performance gets too bad for VR I will have to combine the textures and maps into atlas' and rgb channel packing i guess.

So I tried this new approach on stylized tileable texture creation in ZBrush with the help of Fanny Vergne's Tutorial in Vertex Magazine and here are my first two results for Stoneplates and Wood
