Howdy guys. Now that Unreal Engine 4 is public I can show off a map that I worked on almost a year ago.... which those of you who have subscribed to UE4 probably already have
Rick Kohler and I were tasked with coming up with a small map that would show off reflections in editor. I was responsible for the modeling/texturing (except for all of the pipes, clamps, and posters which were textured by Eric Terry) and shaders. Rick handled the meshing, lighting, and atmosphere. The composition was a collaborative effort. The FX were done by Tim Elek.
I used this map to learn how sphere reflection captures work (among other things). Thank you for this map, everyone new to UE4 should take a look at it!
Robeomega: Hmm, once we got rolling I would say like 3 weeks. We were given no restrictions, so we went through a couple of different ideas, so overall it was more.
moose: thanks dude! you da man
WarrenM: thanks a lot man, thats a big compliment
ae.: Sweet, hopefully there will be something in there you might find useful!
Snight: Thats great, thanks man!
Stromberg90: Thanks! Dont look too close
Ignacio_G: Thanks man, thats awesome to hear! I am definitely happy with how that aspect of the map turned out.
nathdevlin: Thats great to hear, although that scares me a little haha
PogoP: Thanks man. We used to joke around that next gen was all about the wet shader As for the Chromatic Abberation, yeah it's definitely just personal preference. This was just the setting that we thought looked great to us.
JordanLeigh: That's awesome to hear!
Fisty: You can set up your own hotkey for it, or just change the viewmode pulldown to wireframe.
Kevin Johnstone: thanks BRO...errr... thanks Kev, I appreciate it
coots7: Thank you
ZombieWells: Awesome, I hope you enjoy it!
Jeff Parrot: Thanks a lot dude
Havoc89: Thank you... yeah this gen is going to be freaking awesome! Playing through Infamous now, which is so gorgeous... cant wait for the second round of games when devs start to really get a handle on what new hardware can do!
metalliandy: Thanks Andy
Matthew O: I appreciate it!
whw: Brown is so last gen
Kel-Shaded: woot!
noscope: Haha, well the good thing is you can change anything in there to your liking
BARDLER: To tell you the truth, we did this map last April, so I haven't actually inspected the materials in a long time, hehe. The rendering guys would totally slap my hand for not either doing a 0 or 1.... I dunno... maybe it gave just a hint better reflections on the tiles.
Love it, really top notch stuff. Personal preference, I'd probably tone down the chromatic aberration a bit, but it's an otherwise finely crafted scene. Also props to Rick for sneaking his name in there.
Gearman: Thanks man. We really had a lot of fun with it. Eric Terry did a great job with the posters. There are a lot of little inside jokes on the posters. One of them is of me...one of them is of Rick...one of them has some of our environment artist on there..one is the button from the Infiltrator demo..and one is of the gondola I did for Gears of War Judgment. Also gave little shoutouts to my wife and daughter on one of them as well
It's photorealistic :O
UE4 really reserved the throne with this one. I can't wait to see what kind of incredible visuals the developers will come up with.
I spent my morning going through this little showcase, its absolutely beautiful Josh. I don't know that I could think of a better way to show off the reflection tech, I spent about 15 minutes trying to dissect your shaders for the clamp around the pipes..the water reacting with the puddle too is just mind-blowing.
scotthomer - Thanks a lot Scott, I really appreciate it! Im really glad it came off that way.. it was a ton of fun making it! Don't look too close at those clamp shaders though, haha
Gmanx - Thats awesome! I'll make sure to let Tim know
EvanTideswell - Thanks! Get in there yo!
Goodtastic - It sure is... along with a bunch of other amazing maps!

Looks cool man, good work from the both of you. In my opinion the chromatic abberation is a bit too much.
Looks more golden than brown. Tarnished even - it's all gone Deus-Esque!
