Post what you'd like to do next month, remember to vote by re-posting the picture of the concept you vote for. Anyone can vote even if you are not in the challenge. Add concepts you like too!
If I change the result I will pick one of the highest voted, I probably won't but if I do for whatever reason you have fair warning. I spent probably about 5 hours looking at concepts, I feel like there are not enough on the internet to not have a bunch of repeated content so please if you have some good stuff post it!
Remember, these ideas need to be stuff done in a month!
I'm not ready for another sci-fi concept, last one was kinda sci-fi, the one before it was really sci-fi, but it seems like people like voting for the same things.
Stopped voting on this thread when I realised it didn't count and the concept could be changed at any moment. I.e last month when the fantasy concept won and randomly got changed to some Sci Fi Egg on a mountain ;D no disrespect to the OP it just gets abit repetitive.
I've seen a bit of saltiness from last months concept, and multiple people getting tired of the 'scifi' theme. In all actuality the majority of concepts that i've seen are WAY out of scope to pull off within ONE month. I think that's where the issue lies. Your free to take any of the concepts to do on your own - so absolutely nothing stopping you there.
Regarding the scifi themes - just imo, it sort of makes sense. Scifi in it's own right lends itself VERY well to modularity. This is a noob challenge. So these modularity concepts and being able to learn them, how geometry fits together, how textures fit together, etc - would naturally make scifi a dominating genre. Anything handpainted - especially unique assets (but even if it were modular) would take WAY longer than scifi panels etc (all just imo.)
All in all, I don't see anything wrong with taking concepts from this thread and doing it on your own. PS. If you get tired of repetition/genres/themes. 3D art isn't for you
Good point, but there are many different environments that you could work on that have good levels of modularity. No need to stick with the same theme each month.
Only reason I haven't wanted to join in is because it usually seems to be Sci-fi or Stone...
And because the popular concept's don't seem to get chosen now
Another hard surface modeling with metal panels? Let's do something different, moody, wet, rainy, old... come on guys! Challange yourself!
Scifi can be plenty challenging.
And no matter what someone is going to complain "oh man scifi again I'm soooo sick of scifi."
We have done 3-4 scifi scenes which is far less than non-scifi.
And because the popular concept's don't seem to get chosen now
People are choosing concepts that are not fit for a noob challenge, the last one was picked in the skype group. Sorry if that bothers you but that's how it is. People post a massive scene and then vote for it like it's actually do-able and suitable for a noob challenge in a month. A good example is this, way too much for a one month noob challenge.
The month timescale is undoubtedly always going to be an issue with these sorts of challenges. But although this challenge specifies one month, it doesn't stop people from tweaking/finishing afterwards for their 'folios.
Personally, I find juggling a job and 3D work time consuming as is, HOWEVER I do believe that the mentality of doing as much as possible in a month is a good one in terms of wanting to actually achieve and get somewhere. If you don't choose concepts that challenge people to push themselves, then I feel that this whole things becomes a questionable exercise anyway... Sure it's about 'noobs' improving, but it's also a good opportunity to set good working practice etc.
The best concepts are definitely the moody, rough-around-the-edge ones that give everyone a chance to keep building up a base of portfolio-ready screnes/assets/textures, or at least push the less experienced to achieve this.
I like this one, and also really like the one that Magmasto just posted.

Don't judge me, but I'm new to Polycount in terms of "posting" (i have been following the challenges, to see what people are doing, actually very cool stuff). So I decided that I should start to do portfolio so I can find a job on Game Industry later on. (I have a job as 3D artist, I'm not in the game field area though). The concept from previous month was interesting but I was unable to do anything because of lack of time, since my job sometimes requires extra hours if stuff doesn't go as planned.
I really like that concept of the mountains, I will probably archive it and do it like when ever I have time for it and it is not good for the time frame of this challenge like you said. I even have the concerns about the Telescope one, even though there is a lot of instances. But the Portal/Cave one would be much better. Not only that "looks" simple, it probably would push the creativity of the peeps in my opinion.
IS there a way to join the skype conversion? or is it only staff?
I like the look of the telescope room too, but there are some elements to that room that might be too much for me to do in one month. That said, it's definitely my favorite out of all of them, and that certainly counts for something. It's important to find the piece exciting if you're going to work on it for a month.

Came across this one a few days ago... i like the atmosphere. (The concept itself is not to great to model it I guess, it's more of a mood picture)
Edit:
Adding another one.

My votes.
Here is my vote.
Totally digging this one
I have genuine interest in joining this one, need some environments in my folio :S
And this:
Maybe something like new Thief, Dishonored or probably new Asasins Creed?
A lot of chance to sculpt and act with lighting...

I agree, the scale is a bit off in some places but that could add to the challenge. Make the scale correct...

This one will get my vote:
