totally cool game. no surprise you got very good response.
maybe it will loose something when you go away from pixel art or maybe will get even better. will wait and see.
good luck
Bro Dredd is getting a little close to infringing on fair-use clauses as the other characters can all be classified into tropes but the Judge Dredd character is unique. I don't know how aggressive the copyright holder is but the movie just came out so I wouldn't be surprised if they were actively looking for emulations.
Scruples - Thanks for the heads up! As far as I am aware it is fine, we maybe change his gloves to be gold instead of green. It is parody and the characters names are changed. Thanks!
Heya! Haven't been maintaining this thread very well, we have been very busy working on the game . A lot of changes have happened. We have scrapped the painted art style a while ago because it was just taking too long to produce and have gone with pixel art.
Fishypants: Thanks guy!
pixelpatron: Heya, you mean you prefer the pixel art to the painted art (cancelled)?, or you prefer the old old pixel art to the new pixel art ?
Minos: Thanks Yo!
ghost-d: Thanks man! Ill keep posting! Anything you finding not fun in particular with the game? or just not your style?
OH MAN, just got caught playing that for much longer then I should have, amazing game design. The combination of destruction plus effects makes for a fun experience.
It is a shame that you had to ditch the amazing hand painted art style, that was far superior to the overplayed pixel art that happens in indie games. Maybe for the sequel!
Quake! : Heya! Thanks man! yea it is a shame but pixel art broforce will have more content, which is more important
Im busy working on the cinematics. We are gunna implement a competitive face punching cinematic soon (where players smash X to beat up the mook general)
ghost-d: Thanks man! Ill keep posting! Anything you finding not fun in particular with the game? or just not your style?
I think I should say that I only commented on art based on the video and pictures, not in-game experience. So I´m not judging the fun-factor. I just prefer games that are not that quick (closer to Abe´s Exodus and such) - but that´s my personal taste, that doesn´t mean that there´s anything wrong with the game.
Just voted for you guys on Greenlight.
I'm playing the alpha for a few days now, this is really great ! The characters and guns are excellent, keep going !
the game is fun due to really great feedback and good core gameplay, good job on that, feels really good to play.
The stylized art looks so much better than the pixel art , its really amazing while the pixel art is good, but nothing special you havent seen before. (That flamethrower, woo hoo!)
Actually you put yourself up in a field where you can compete, but never be top, while you could be of the 2D avant-garde with the old style. (Per example, you could never compete with 1000 year old Metal Slug graphic wise, and there are thousands of great looking pixel games)
You loose so much of that funny representation of the game with the pixel style. Id love to play with Brorackus or Rambro but if they are a blobby pixel mass and I cant really identify them, its only half as fun.
The joy of the old art was like "Oh look at this (stylized cartoonish) MR.T he is hilarious!" while now its more like "Oh wait, thats MR-T"
Even the pixel text is hard to read when you free them.
However, Im sure you do a great game either way
So many great artworks in here, copied a lot into the inspiration folder ; )
I dislike the logo tho, The font looks unfitting, the blue dosnt have the best tone, and the gradient is really strong. The font could be a lot bigger proportionally to the star (be more on top > middle) and have more impression and power. The colors are dull overall and not saturated enough. The red is powerless and the yellow is washed out. The blue-grey border for the star looks like a placeholder. (3 Stars maybe?)
Also you really need a screen before the game starts which indicates the control sheme, because its a total mess to find out if you dont know already. Its 10minutes photoshop work and saves a lot of player nerves and keep them from closing the game after 30 seconds of trying out.
User experience is important
ghost-d - Thanks guy! Was just wondering if you had any specific things you didnt like, we accept all forms of crit with open arms!
Muzz - Yea man, Im just one guy doing the content with an animator, theres too much stuff that goes into a game like this to do painted with 1 guy on content.
Abrvpt - Thanks for your vote man you're AWESOME!
Shrike - Hey man! Awesome advice thank you! We were excited to the max about the painted style (well I was at least :P) but it really is just too much work. I whole heartedly agree with you on the previous logo. Funny you should bring it up, because I have actually been working on a new logo the last 2 days or so ( see below:P) I think we feel like a key map screen is a last ressort, we should rather teach players the keys ingame better :P TY FOR THE CRIT PS: I have big plans for the pixel art so stay tuned :P Still lots of improvements to be made!
xxxcubanxxx - :-D!
AzzaMat- Thanks yo!
Heres the new logo WIP (the dota-esk fire background thing will still be space I was just having fun :P).
I should be uploading some screens for the competitive FACE PUNCHING minigame soon (maybe tommorow or thursday, I gotta work towards a nice style for the UI atm).

Edit: Love the original art style, but can't wait to see the new stuff, all moving and covered in gibs.
Are you laying the levels out by hand, or is it procedural?
More please!
DAMN you!
Looks really fun to play, nice job.
maybe it will loose something when you go away from pixel art or maybe will get even better. will wait and see.

Thanks for the kind words! Redid the vegitation to make it more interactive! They also fall down if you explode the ground under them!
Sorry for the poor quality gif of tree jumping, we couldnt get the gif to video 100% , should get the idea across though!

Oh yea, 100% agree on more content. Keep on kicking ass!
Painted high res is such a terrible workflow if you like to retain sanity!
(NEVER AGAIN!!)

(Firey background has been used dozens of times before dota)
Edit: This deserves a pic
Im always hyped for nice type tho
