So a floater can create the illusion of a depth going into the model? I thought a floater could only be used for something being projected away from the model, or on top of it.
@ RENDEREN :"My two cent's" I am as well a begginer in hard surfacing, but what i could tell you is that floaters can really make your job extremely less frustrating. You can easily do a few floaters there and just focus on the bevel shape's.
looks good and you have no issue. Go ahead and do it that way, it's good exercise. In the future, however, looking into floaters, could save you time if you want to for example put more time on learning to have a clean bake or push your texturing skills. But good work on it.
right i relize that it would be a god place to use a floater, how ever i got it in place and made the correct edge loops to where i dont need a floater. that turbo smoothing error i cannot figure out. the model itself is fairly messy, im still roughing out alot of it. heres the file…
Let’s apply it right away. Looking at the game assets, the barrel mesh was made with a 24-sided cylinder, so I tried using a 24-sided shape. My eyesight is bad today, so I guess I'll have to stop work. The floaters are very visible. I'm so lucky to have this community and kind people like you.
