This is not exactly news, and it's not exclusive to Rockstar. It is unfortunately a games industry norm to work 10/12 hours a day. So you better love what you do before you sign in.
I'd like to know how many people here work 10/12 hours a day? In the five years I've been in the industry I always worked my 8 hour days, with the (very) rare 10 hour day now and then.
I keep trying to work 6 days a week, 12 hours a day, but my damn boss won't let me! I even offer to do it without overtime pay (for now). What a jerkoid! And now I hear he calls interviewees "gay"? Man.... Somebody call HR on that guy. :poly142:
From what I hear R* Vancouver is run in a very similar way. if you dont work 12 hour days 6-7 days a week you are not "hardcore" apparently. not gonna goss to much about it but had a bud who worked there for 3 years in senior/lead art position and said it was a living hell, and this guy isnt one to bitch and moan.
Peris: I choose to work about a 10 hour day but could easily work your standard 8 hour day and have managed my same schedule in "crunch" situations. I've basically kept that same schedule throughout my entire career excluding a few "crazy" situations and my first job which had me working 12 - 16 hours more often than not.
more likely they posted it while pissed off. noticed it was being read and tried to salvage their rep. In my own job I've been doing 6 day weeks / 12 hour days for the last month or so, not getting Overtime but being treated well. usually we are very flexible. if I start at 7 I go home at 3. crunch time just gets a bit…
Work 10 hr days so far, and is because i like being ahead with my work and do some extra research and stuff. I could be working 8 hr days. Some build days we do end up staying a little over time... but usually i get out of here at 6.30. before i we had a stretch of work of like 12 hr days avg, for like 6 months haha.
I remember at my first job during Alpha we worked 12+ hour days for 19 days straight. Not 19 work days straight, 19 literal days straight (Monday to Sunday). Some people worked 16+ for those 19 days straight. It seems usually when crunch hours like that are put on people it's because of bad scheduling which is funny…
I have done the 12 hour shifts 5-7 days a week in the past. It's brutal. I was on contract so it was all compensated but the money is secondary when you lose track and feel like you spend all of your time in the office. I live a significant commute away from my job so my ratio of time spent at work/in transit was hugely…
waiting for someone to use the "U" word........ at which point i will once again shoot myself in the cranium with a double barrel shotgun. i'm with Justin ... not that this really comes close to comparison to the image included.... but where I work now, the vast majority of the guys work on the road... this entails on…
