@FreneticPonies : well, the face ended up being kind of soft even compared to the concept (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/x431r) which already has a pretty soft face in the first place. Now that you pointed it out the chin should be a bit sharper but it's nothing I can't fix even at this point, thank you.
Looking really nice. I really like the soft way you've handled the terrain. For the crystal, you may want to consider some really tight and sharp reflections to give it a glossy effect. Right now the highlights are very soft and it's reading as a more diffused gummy-like surface.
WIP WIP goofed on this a bit at lunch, old style soda machine i have some questions for you people (and vig) i want the glass on the door to be transparent so you can see the sodas behind it. when i've tried alpha it made a lot of sorting issues. what is norma shader stuff i need to use for tf props? to get the phong look…
So does anyone know whats happening here? My UV shells ARE seperate, soft selection is off and its affecting all my scences. This shot is from a 2 month old model. Ive been searching for a solution for over an hour and the only thing Ive found is it being related to soft select and to turn that off. But it is off. has…
Overcast lighting is soft because the dense clouds collects and refracts the light rays so it acts kinda like a huge area light. So to achieve soft shadows, you would need to have area lights. In order to have that, just increase the source radius parameter of the spotlights until you get the desired result.
The thing that truly amazes me is that you rendered this with mental ray. I instantly thought it was rendered with GI based engines like maxwell or arnold,... Can you give some more information about your lighting/render methods? I rarely see such beautiful soft shadows and soft reflections as these. Carry on the good…
Yes, If You really want to have that hard edge then You have to split the shell on uvs. But in mostly cases You will propably want to have soft edge. You can place hard on 90 degree, In my opinion rest of the cases should have soft. Although, there are many schools and opinions about this, and this is only my opinion ^^
raytrace shadow with only one ray makes a nice sharp shadow, not like here. The softness is on the other lights and they do the same result, but less visible because of the randomness and contrast ( but look below the chairs at the center ). And raytrace shadows do take much longer.. because i don't have only one and want…
The feet look a little soft. They kinda have that ninja shoe vibe going on. Maybe reshape them some. The loin cloth thing has some good folds. You really captured the weight with it. The upper arm armor looks soft on the edges too. hPolish those up a bit.
Hey, anyone know how they're z-sorting their grass? It's so soft and smooth, can't be alpha-test, gotta be soft alpha on it. But how the heck do they stop the near grass from punching through to the ground? Can't be separate entities for each clump, that would run too slow.
