I am texturing low poly sword atm and I also have some hard edge problems here. I decided to build my normal map in layers. So there are many layers with details but the main shape has no normals because it does not need to have them. Some details were done in ps with Ndo app and some were done in Xnormal after sculpting… -

All those panels could be done in photoshop really easily. Lay out your UVs, save them, open them in PS and basically just draw black and white lines where you want the panels (black is down, white is up) and then just convert it to a normal map. You could also model those in, but judging by the shape, the wouldn't be… -

I am still working on the cylinder part. Seems like the matter was the bevel function's smoothing angle. If smoothing angle is 30 degree which is default, it could cause black edge issue. Solution found! It is possible to render out certain colors by using the color lookup table (LUT) When using PS keep the basic texture (found on UDK site)on top of a screen grab of the level. Adjust how you want by using Adjustment layers and save it as .PNG, import in UDK and add the texture to Color Grading lookup table… -

Yeah the normal map would have to be transformed to -1 to 1 first. Maybe it's a bad keyboard. Have you got any spares lying around that you can try? I'm using a PS/2 -> USB adapter on my keyboard and maybe once every few days it flips out and starts spamming weird keys or key combinations until I hammer left control and/or left shift a few times. This only happens when using the adapter.
