could you please illustrate your idea ? other than that, trial and error rules =) the good thing is that shaders are typically not too long, ie not insane amount of work to just experiment with it. Vancouver Film school ha been pumping out some of the game industries next top talents from what ive seen at CgTalk . That school looks very high quality based on the students coming out of it . I'd say by far and away the best reels that I have seen coming out of any school . -

I think you can do this with a CGfx or HLSL shader - I've only barely poked with them, but maybe that could give you enough to research up on?
