I had a similar problem with Maya 8-8.5 not too long ago with my 7300 gs and 8800 gt. I don't know if my solution will solve it for you, but under my Nvidia control panel, I set "Threaded optimization" to off. I found that under "adjust image settings with previews", and then "use advanced settings" -

Just to throw this out there but have you looked at the Dell factory outlet or even Dell at all? I know most people hate Dell but to be honest with you I have had nothing but good results from them. I got a top of the line XPS 700 from them about 2 years ago and drop BIG $$$ on it but I had one of the best Direct X 9.0 PCs… -
