Hi, mates. Here is a hair style for game. I done this in 24 hours only, as I had tight time frame. I used Xgen for strand generation and hand modeling for hair cards, without any plugins.
WIP Hi world, this is my Yakuza artwork, which I developed during my participation in the ArtStation challenge "Neo Tokyo: Exponential Reality" in the Film/VFX Character Art category (rendered). This experience was incredibly exciting and allowed me to navigate the entire 3D pipeline, from likeness sculpting, modeling, and…
Hi, I focused the face close-up details and I made some experiment with Arnold render using alShaders in Maya. The peach fuzz was made with XGen. The face details was sculpted in ZBrush and I painted the SSS textures in Mari.
Cassowary assets modeled in Maya & I did some sculpting in Zbrush,Mari for the texturing ,I used software maya Xgen and Fibermesh for groom , Rendered in Arnold also did some wip composting in Nuke & Photoshop. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/QzA5Zr https://www.zbrushcentral.com/t/cassowary/367819
Commenting to follow your work. Looks fantastic. I was recently doing a lot of RnD on hair using Xgen and find it very difficult. One of the hardest aspects of asset creation I've come across. Can't wait to see your tutorials!
Here it is the hair. Been learning xgen from Tom Newbury gumroad tutorial, it's easy to follow and get the hang of it quickly. The renders are with just a quick Arnold shader I need to improve it more later. might do the final render on maya
There is a preference under Settings>Modelling where you can set the default subdivision method. And if Maya 2015 is taking a while to boot, try turning off plugins you don't need. Especially ones such as Alembic, AlembicBullet, Bullet, Xgen, and Bifrost.
A lil update, to my realtime chimp character. First pass of the haircards. So i'm focusing on the hair near the head first. This is a workflow i'm still experimenting with and i see a lot room for improvement.

Hey guys! I'd like to share a cinematic character i did based on a diablo 3 monk's concept. Software used: Maya, Vray, Zbrush, Mari, Photoshop. Hair were done inside of Xgen for Maya. hope you like it!
Interesting move from Epic to acquire Shave. I hope this will lead into some progress on xGen. https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/programs/shave-and-a-haircut/shave-and-a-haircut-v9-6-for-maya [mod edit: because I hate fun, I changed the title to be more informative}
