If you're really serious about doing portraiture, I would try a strategy along these lines: 1.) Gather reference (online and off). A game studio is really hopeless idea here because as others have said already, art is a small portion of the big picture and I don't see why anyone would bother to crowdfund an outsource studio... Gametrailers.com has video dev diaries for games all the time, and forums like this one, zbrushcentral.com and conceptart.org showcase art from games all the time. Personally I go for that rather than paying extra for the game...cuz I'm cheap!
