very nice, i am not an environment artist so do as you wish though my 1st thoughts with fresh eyes cause i have not seen this thread at all up until now, you asked here are my .02's cents, 2nd floor far right balcony "fence/ledge/guard" is warpy at middle for looks or interest sake? but for me it stands out to much as an…
Good eye @NomadSoul2501 I think i need to do a bit more explaining now, lol I did start this proj off with out putting thought into it and being like yeah! lets create a sweet env. But I've been putting some thought into it recently and i really want to go back to what got me into CG in the first place. Level design. I…
Complete map? You can do that using Render to Texture but rarely do you want to do that because it bakes in the 3dsmax scene lighting. Even if you don't have lights in your scene there is always one behind the viewport camera by default (so you can see objects in the scene). Complete maps really aren't useful for much.…
That's indirectly how I got my first game-industry job. I was still in school, actively posting on here, but not looking for work. Ended up finishing school remotely the next semester! I helped a friend get hired in a similar way. From what I've seen, I agree with the small polished portfolio vs. a large unfinished one. I…
Yeah, this is padding from the normal map bake. The holes in the high poly cause ray misses, which are filled in by the UV padding function. If the low poly doesn't have supporting geometry for this you should: 1. Add an opacity/transparency map (probably not the best method for this case) 2. Cap these holes in the high…
yup I was asked to make a base mesh that could be textured or used as a blank for sculpting. I believe the sculpt has to be baked back down on the base mesh for the final though. Oh and I would imagine that with the extra 500 polygons you are allowed to change the UV's. Without changing the UV's there isn't enough space on…
I definitely suggest checking out the Street Triple and taking a test ride if you can. As you say, you are limiting yourself by specifically looking for ABS. In all honesty, it's a luxury but by no means a necessity. I know some of the schools tend to drum it in a bit and if their learner bikes have it, then they'll stress…

http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135400 I'm still working on last month's challenge (20) linked above. At this point I have a few questions about scene management: First of all this was my first time dealing with so many things in so many files. If anyone has scene and file management advice I would love to…
Retopo, is the act of taking something that is insanely high poly and unusable in games and creating a low poly version that is optimized and efficient. Typically this is done so you can bake normal maps that are applied to the low poly to make it look like the high. As for the first question, you really need to answer…
