Okay so I just need to add more even geo around the model, re-unwrap, reimport the obj, and tick off smooth uv's? I'll try again tomorrow after my scripting homework. Thanks guys.
http://www.funkybunnies3d.com/tools.php The FB Sub-Obj Pivot script creates a working pivot based on sub-object selection. VERY useful! Rappatools has a better implementation but you'll have to pay for the full pack. http://remusjuncu.com/rappatools/
There's also this thread http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75753, which resulted in a script by the lovely SyncView that lets you align vertex normals to face normals on a per-face basis. Automatically collapses the stack and is reset by an Edit Poly.
As for the mirror problem I recommend you try out zhcg polyTools http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/polygon/c/zhcg_polytools--2 It practically makes the mirror for you and has a lot of other cool features cheers !
All Programs->Wacom Tablet->Wacom Tablet Properties. you change settings per app in Wacom Tablet Properties. just make sure the apps is open when when you make a new profile. no need for scripting etc.
been thinking about that. there's a script for max from a talented german fellow (forgot his name), which auto generates rocks in Max with the help of displacement maps. Maybe a similar displacement workflow could be used to modify existing stuff...
one thing you could try is making sure the hair planes normals match the normals of the head mesh, it makes quite a bit of a difference: this plugin for max can help with it: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/normal-thief
That script looks cool. I personally prefer modelling in orthographic mode anyway. And I'll switch to perspective every now and then to check the proportions. I find that many functions are broken in perspective and work much better in orthographic view, unfortunately.
@DavidJones the t key doesnt have the mode for constraining movements to the mesh shilloette @Farfarer thats the best suggestion ive heard yet, but sounds extremely combersome! ill look into it. maybe with some scripting it could work. R.I.P. XSI :'(
Cheers mate, and it's not for GTA at all, it's going in Unity, here's the next nearly finished asset and here's a small gameplay video, it's junky controls but it's a start, I suck at Java Script [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzQzyc6l5bI[/ame]
