Udk doesn't have a synced normal map work flow so there will always be some issues. Adding smoothing groups/splits/hard edges do help some in situations like this. Make sure you are using the suggested xnormal work flow for UE3 that Epic has in their documentation. The UE4 doesn't exactly apply to UE3.
@Edrice: Thanks. I agree and have reworked the front of the skirt. Not sure if I fixed the issue you mentioned though. Here's a mostly final high poly. The hair was/is placeholder. Also got around to doing a retopo and initial bake. I wanna finish this off soon so I can jump into the Dota 2 comp. :)
I like the asymmetry in 2, better than 10 because it's sort of proportionally great. 10 is off in the sizes. I like 6 because it looks kinda evil, but I don't like the legs. chrisradsby above me drew it how I think it should be like. 11 is just epic since it looks like an angel.
Indeed, but as we're talking UDK, the auto UV generator (which is MS DirectX not Epic) can produce quite shit results. Maybe there is a better in-house tool you've used? As for spending time on it - take your diffuse uv set, copy it to your lightmap uv set and start there. Should not take more than a few mins.
With some playing around I found that moving the dominant directional light to a different angle fixed up most of the issues, but then created even more problems with the landscape. Finally cutting everything from that scene and pasting it into a new file fixed it for the most part. Thanks for the input though. I hope Epic…
Never thought I'd say this about Lightmass, but 12 mins seems like a long time to build the lighting in that scene. :) I tested GPULM on the Epic Arch-Vis scene and it took less than 2mins with all textures/mats applied. Not sure about the command line thing as I haven't needed to use it yet.
UPDATES : O~~!!?! unfortunately its all doodles ): - defs time to start something 3d soon (or finish something off) >< epic beard tiems ! a game about vikings :e mockup and some nonsense university junku, staring a revival of my failed domwar character from yonks ago D: 'n that's all for now :O
doin the frost giants so that the animator where i work can make an epic battle lol between him and thor since he gonna be little more realistic need to change thors face now screwed around also with a thor render he doesnt have textures so far just shaders
Blame Vadim maybe? He went and did this epic character and talks about how he does his lowpoly in triangles in his video. I can see how someone wanting to pick up his tricks would be picked up by that trick. Or maybe tucker's just doing some viral ads for these guys:
Got Mr. Shela Sei into the UDK, bringing my total number of Generals up to 3. I have 4 more to go! Also, I played around a bit with displacment maps and Tesselation inside the UDK. Epic have royally skrewed up the artist's control over tesselation, so I'll steer clear of it.
