I changed my method and had some better results, used an actual hi-poly to bake from, increased the rays, used a better cage. But I want to get back to this question of when you should bake them-- As Slosh implied, is it just if you're using substance painter etc? I admit to not completely understanding how AO works in… -

Hey Raquel, that's a really good start. There are just three things that bother me in your scene : - some areas, especially the wood, have waaaaay too much noise/details. You could tone that down a bit, especially with this really colored lighting, it gives a cartoony/stylized feeling which doesn't match highly detailed… -

I don't think this is a good idea. The different styles you mention require not only changes in texture, lighting and shading, but also modeling. This means you'll essentially rebuilding the environment several times. Cool if you're up for it, but I'd get pretty sick of creating the same space over and over. Stylized work,… -

Thanks Kevin, yeah there were some changes regarding quality which I of course take as part of the process. But specifically on one case the likeness of the stylized concept art(referring to a real person) was different than what they wanted (a more realistic likeness) and I got through to a finished textured low poly… -

thanks for the responses... @Zotter : yes it appears that the gun is heavier for that part of the hydraulics to hold it up.. but if you think about it this is a laser turret and the gun part is made out of plastic .. however i made the gun oversize for design reasons . it gives this object a stylized feel that i am happy… -

Difference is those were both full fledged games, although I love L4D it is only 4 maps. And for most of the time it was only 2 online maps. Compared to games that come out yearly like CoD they have many more maps and a lot more depth in single player and multilayer. I will just do what I did for L4D one and wait for them…
