Hey Forsaken, Please see: http://polycount.com/discussion/161818/answered-add-more-channels-missing#latest TLDR: I've been notified by Teddy that 'Add more maps' is planned to be added back to the base creator. Thanks for letting us know!
So I’ve been working on assets for a sort of faux-character creator lately. There’s way more options than are shown here, but I thought I’d put together a mockup screenshot of the interface for the moment. I'll add some characters created with it soon.
I have some reference pics that may help you w/ edgeloops. I don't know from where they come, but they're not from my models, all rights and respect to their respective creators: Just keep cracking at it and don't get frustrated.
I refined the Blockout and started using a kitbash to quickly add some details. I'm not sure what elements of the kitbash will make it to the final version but for now, it will help to set the look. Kitbash is from amazing kitbash creator Oleg Ushenok (https://www.artstation.com/olegushenok).
Interesting thread. To answer the posed questions first, Yes I consider myself an artist first and foremost because I do not limit myself to design documents and briefs. I do "work" for pay but I also work on my own for the personal satisfaction of creation/expression of my mood/emotion/perspective... so many things can go…
You may want to acknowledge the creator of the base mesh since you've been using the pre-Dominance War SDK from one of the past challenges. It's not exactly good form to claim something as your own when you didn't do all the work.
No it's not updating after I reconfigure my maps. I hit the "Reimporter" button and then put in my new updated maps into the base creator, then hit rerender. It updates my AO and my normals, but the changes made to the ID Map don't update on my project.
google hangouts are the best option for easy screen share about the volume issue current toolbox is out of commission atm due to a bug with the plugin, an update from the creators stated they were trying to fix the bug. So we just have to wait and see
You could still use a terrain look like World Machine or World Creator. They provide a lot of flexibility over how you create and output your terrain. You will need how to learn to use them effectively first but the results can be marvelous
One serious issue you will probably face is the lack of compatibility between regalar Maya files and files coming from LT. It sounds minor at first, but as soon as you start sharing files with other content creators it might become a non-negligeable roadblock.
