I can't understand this hating. Quixel is an awesome product by an awesome company that is 100% fair to its customers. Can't wait to have 2.0 in my hands and stop handtweeking unity 5 materials :D

In Unity you could do this as a light cookie(projection) or as an animated reflection probe. I don't know what kind of performance the latter would get you, but you look nice if blended well.
I really want to do lighting and reflections like this but Ive never done anything much in udk so this is all new to me, we use unity at work. http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/ImageBasedReflections.html

... lightmap not working? you're using lightmaps as well? I know that unity can't have an object use lightmaps and transparency at the same time (as far as i know) that might be related to the issue you're havin... ??
