It still doesn't work in 4.24 but a fix has been published on this thread: https://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/feedback-for-epic/1618618-virtual-texturing-feedback?p=1688979#post1688979 However it implies recompiling the UE source code yourself. Hopefully the fix will make it into 4.24.1.
i'll remain optimistic but this looks like they're playing it safe, with all the cgi and the 'epic' looking school battle scenes. I mean this is from the director of Wolverine... Butterfield is perfectly cast, I just wish they caught him while he was doing Hugo (zzzzzz).
I agree, Jerusalem and Damascus were inspired environments in the original game. Sort of wish the new consoles were more powerful and those cities were revisited. On the other hand... Industrial Revolution British Empire might be great fuel for some epic "Steam Punk".
There is Occulus Medium and VRClay. Early adaptations alright but a glimpse to the future, no doubt. I watched a conference demo of Medium a while back but I can't seem to find the link again. It might have been either an Epic twitch or a GDC presentation. Sorry, can't remember.
Heads up! A commenter in the UE4 forums brought to my attention that Epic finally did some work to integrate metallic & specular into DBuffer decals. They did it independently, though, so I had nothing to do with it. Here is a link to the forum post. And here is the commit on GitHub.
Wow, it's great to hear from an actual modeller who has worked on a current game! I finished Far Cry 3 a couple of weeks ago, I can honestly say the game is epic! It is visually stunning with beautiful modelling, well done and thanks for sharing.
Actually the Senor Concept Artist at Epic Games, James Hawkins(i am not sure if he still is), uses 3d in order to make the final concept for production purposes. There is like a whole DVD on it. http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/store/product/534/gears-of-War-Creature-Design
I'm honestly not quite sure why Unreal does what it does in this regard - you may wish to ask the Epic support forums about mesh import issues. I'm not much help there, unfortunately. :( Let me know if I can help with anything else!
Primarily rendering speed, yes (not racing at 60fps = epic fail) Apart from the megatexture itself (I think Minecraft uses something similar?), is there anything special about the new ID 5 engine that would make it more prone to performance gains from the megatexture?
