I recommend checking out a book called "Stop Staring: Facial Modeling and Animation Done Right (3d edition)" which guides you through the steps for getting a good rig aswell as understanding important shapes you want to hit. -

That's completely understandable, it's a lot! Here a few pointers to help you out. * First of all it's hard to go step by step. A lot of the things you are about to learn bleed into each other.
