I like the simple shape of the head but why not add some high-frequency details (bolts etc) and add some metallic style scratches since I assume its made of steel etc. Material indication (scratchy sharp specular highlights, or diffuse specs on plastic ) will bring your characters to life -

I just found this model viewer, it uses .obj for the mesh and .jpg for the texture. Simple stuff like this where you can export with little hassle is cool. Download is equal in size to a static screenshot of the model.… -

Just an update: the Island is still being made, however, I've also been working alongside updating my portfolio as was intended from my college admission thread. I've been using this opportunity as a "I learn as a go" to better complete the island (as I want to give it bump maps and spec maps). -

Update! Got the low poly/bake/diffuse done. Probably rework the tattoos on him, not really satisfied with them (im thinking tattoo sleeves) , and a few other bits and bobs. The spec map needs to be started, then after thats done ill move onto the unicycle. 2048* maps, 9366 tris. Thanks -

I think the trouble, for me, is that it looks like someone came through with a grime sprayer and put a nice even coat over the entire thing. There's no "story" to the dirt or scratches, they're just ... there. The material response on the spec looks good but I would definitely spend more time on what is damaged/dirty and… -

Nice texture. The seam is pretty easy to spot though (but you saw that already). Also, run your dirt layer through crazybump and pick only the very fine detail. Overlay it with a very low opacity (5%) over your normalmap. Change the spec/gloss intensity between the panel and the black bar. -

@Snader Yeah, didn't catch that until after I had unwraped and baked everything. If I wasn't on a class schedule, I'd go back and fix it. But, I've started texturing! This is the object in UDK with the diffuse and normal map. No spec map yet. I also plan on making the orange tuning dial glow. -

Argh, these things are still soooo expensive, even if they plan to release a 2nd gen cintiq I can't afford the 1st gen ones :< I'm hoping courier or ipad 2.0 will have pressure sensitivity and some decent specs. If not, atleast they could help to push the price of new wacoms and cintiqs into my range.
