I've recently switched from 3dcoat to Blender for retopology, as it's just much easier to be able to use all poly-modeling tools and primitives. Particularly for hard surface stuff, being able to add a cylinder or sphere and snap it to your highpoly is much faster than attempting to do it by hand (or automatically). Being…
by mouse you say!? I advice you look up using vector graphics or pixel art, a good start with these being ultra lowpoly. bar pixel art and vector graphics a graphics tablet is a must. If you want to give a graphics tablet a try it takes a week or 2 to get used to and there are plenty of budget tablets that should do well…
Thanks for the comments guys. Here are a few shots of the low poly bake, some of the assets aren't present in the initial image. zxcman - the lowpoly base mesh was made in maya, then taken into zbrush. I'm taking a look into topogun in creating faster cleaner meshes instead of fiddling around back in Maya afterwards.…
Eoq - cheers dude OrganizedChaos - thanks man yea eventual I'll do a lowpoly but am waaaay off from that at the moment Jigsaw - cheers for makeing the offort to feedback twice dude :) I know what you mean wih Ryu's face altho he's always looked very European . The gloves are just quick base on a ryu pic I was looking at…
I also use maya LT I've had problems with the offsets in zbrush causing the mesh to not be in the same spot as the OBJ lowpoly I import to Maya - I'd set the offset to zero before exporting. I personally set the scale to 16. This seems like a good size when I import it into maya - but it depends on how big the meshes are…
Thank you so much for your tips! Very appreciate it! Here I tried to add more base topology and I think it is getting better now but I am quite worried about the polycount now. I am not doing lowpoly but the more quads the harder to move them around. What do you think ? Also I am not quite understanding this line : "set up…
hey :) I check your artstation. It seems that you feel good in the hand-painted lowpoly workflow. So maybe you should to specialize in this, I have not seen a lot of artists who are good at. You have a solid foundation for this. I think the best thing you can do is practice direction which you will choose, and not…
its 2 different things, exploded bake is used when you wanna bake out some moving parts (like gun bolt), and cage is "option", where there is set exact copy of lowpoly but this copy is "bigger" and mostly its vertices are "pushed" outwards along its normals. This cage technique is made for objects with multiple smoothing…
Since you are posting here I am assuming you want to work in games. The first thing I would recommend doing is learning proper highpoly to lowpoly techniques. The only game res thing in your portfolio is the skeleton, but its normals are generated by crazy bump which is a major no no. You should be sub-d modeling and/or…
I dig the hell out of it. The proportions are great and she looks like a human being as oppossed to the cookie cutter, anorexic, 11 head tall crimes against human proportion females I'm used to seeing produced. Has a sort of R.Mika from street fighter alpha feel to it as well. My only critisism would be the back of the…
