Okey, this might seem harsh, but I'm just being honest and I am trying to help. This looks shoddy, like something that was thrown together by a ten-year old in paint. If you are a ten-year old paint user, the crits still apply. You really need to learn some fundemental aspects of pixel-art. Making a good palette ramp is…
I like your AO tutorial, I just wish you had images exactly explaining to people how to set some of the stuff up. It took me awhile to get all the steps down so they are easily burned into my brain, but for a noob telling them how to do a lot of your steps can get really confusing. Once I started using MR as my AO…
To be a great texture artists you need to know a lot of stuff. Starting with a firm foundation in digital painting is great and will allow the person a lot of freedom. The next kind of texture artists knows how to butcher photos and cover their tracks pretty well. Blending photos and hand painted details is a must at most…
no worries, most artists hit this wall when they are starting out. I actually really like your 2 linework images in your set of work you posted. as a self taught artist myself I will chime in with my biggest advice off the top of my head. here is how I would approach this moving forwards: 1) use artstation not a wordpress…
I prefer MODO's modeling and UVing workflows to Max and Maya. I don't use MODO for rigging and animationr. I'm still figuring out the Shader Tree. :) The elegance of MODO's modeling tools is compromised by the amount of "dirty mesh" that needs to be cleaned up for game engine use... I've replaced MODO's default…
1) Hi Synaesthesia, the layers issue got solved when I switched to Photoshop CS 6. Now everything seems to working fine right now. I want to thank you for being in this forum and helping me out by giving me options to solve the issues. 2) I have one non-technical issue, and as this is technical forum, I think this might…
Before attempting a new project I would suggest either trying to find a programmer or trying to teach yourself programming. It can be difficult, but the fact is, any moderately sized game project will require programming knowledge. If you can't find a programmer, I would suggest learning the basics of any major programming…
@ m4dcow: Ahh, i figured as much but was not quite sure that that would actually have an affect to the AO. Tahnks for pointing it out. I will put the model back into place and then re-bake... i was dumb enough to not set a Time Line so i cant go back to how it was before Exploding :P bad habits i guess. @ GeeDave:…
It looks like you are setting all your edges to soft, 1 smoothing group, and baking. That is why you have all those gradients in your normal map, which can cause problems, especially when you compress your maps down. You want to make sure you are using hard edges to control your shading, and UV splits on those hard edges…
lots and lots of practice/hard work. There is no real shortcuts or easy way to get good, its simply a matter of pounding on your craft for hours and hours over several years. Most importantly learning something from each project and actually finishing work that is started. getting feedback from professional level people…
