Yah, the armor could use a redesign. Right now it kind of just looks like a welcome mat sitting on his shoulders. Leather armor usually has a lot more layers and segments for the sake of strength, flexibility, and looking cool. As well as straps, stitches, buttons, and other fun details to sculpt holding all together. -

More WIP! I have made the bag, buckle, wrench and pants. I am not 100% happy with the bag (specially the button area) but im going to keep it like this for now. I am planning to make all the buckles sharing textures, for the bags i will maybe do 2 versions to avoid so much repetition. -

If you have the slots enabled in your material when you click the preview button, it should load the images. Let me know if that isn't happening with transparency. As to why this isn't working, by default the transparency input expects the content to come from an alpha channel, so change the alpha dropdown from A to R, and… -

looking pretty good so far, my only crits would be in the arms, on the outside it looks like a large toy button, and the inside looks too bare, if you are going to add more detail with textures there, then that's great. I really like the feet and jet pack, cool detail but not overtly busy, keep up the good work. -

UV Deluxe provides similar functionality to the modo script you mentioned. It's just a script and doesn't depend on any plugins. Set your map size at the top, then set your density in the box that says "Pixels per cm" (under the Ratio rollout) and then select the UV shells you want to scale and hit the "Set Ratio" button. -

You just need to turn on Zsketch after you build a basic Zsphere "skeleton". It's in the Tools menu and it's only visible when you have a Zsphere in the viewport. You need to click the EditSketch button to start using it. Once you do that you have different Zsketch brushes you can use in the Brush menu. -

I'm a big fan of noodly little scripts like this - they save me clicks and they're great practice for when you want to make bigger tools. the polyop stuff is unusually consistent and well organised for maxscript so you'll probably find you can build yourself a bunch of useful mesh manipulating buttons quite quickly -
