That SPARTAN model looks very neat. The only thing I could recommend really is that you soften up the edges on the HP model: the chamfered edges didn't really translate across very well.
I corrected the edging by just having a single plane w/o a beveled edge. But the displacement still looks jagged. I've not been able to get a smooth-looking displ that doesn't have artifacts.
I have also made the lid edges not 90 degrees anymore but the polycount has shot up :/ Could i just have one edge in the middle? or is the way i have done it correct?
Ah I wasnt in edit seams-mode, thanks corv I would instead select all the edges instead and then select Edge Sel To Seams, which is probebly the more difficult way of doing it
Good stuff. Pwweeeease improve edge creasing though (if that's what it's called, nobody uses it because it sucks), like Modo's Edge Weight tool. Been looking at transitioning over to modo because the lack of it.
Looks like a good start. Main critique right now is that you have a lot of hard edges, mostly on the hull/wings. Nothing in the real world has hard edges, not even the blade of a knife.
Yeah, it's super easy. The closer the edges are together, the tighter the smoothed edge will be. If you don't use meshsmoothing, it's even easier. Just build the actual object higher res with a sharp corner, and it's a non issue.
Sorry to sound dumb but how would I go about doing that on this model? I first tried adding extra edge loops but wasn't sure how to do it cleanly with edges coming together.
the hard edge bake looks better, except theres seams on each edge (since the cage was slightly bigger than the box I guess, some rays at the corners of the box missed the high poly)
it looks to me like you've got some weird edges there, it looks like it's not in quads, and you've got edges right next to each other. it kinda looks like its underwater at the moment Manic
