I've done this by using a path tracer, like V-Ray, and a baking tool like Bake To Texture in 3ds Max. Simply make the emissive a light-emitting material, and let the renderer cast the light onto the rest of the mesh. Then bake the lighting into the UV layout of the mesh. Here's an example model…

I have spend the last week working on my first environment scene. It was a lot of fun and i got to try quite a few things i have never done before. Although im not happy with the end result it was good practice and I feel like I now know quite a few things that i will do differently next time I do something similar. This…

To be fair, when I look at portfolios, I just want to see the asset. I don't care much for how the textures look if the output looks cool. The only reason for me to see the texture is to kinda look at the uv map the artist decided to make. See if the model was correctly uvmaped and if there isn't much waste.
I decided to re-assess my this pieces' textures ... again :) The original was too plain. The second was too overly chipped and the wear was too "painted on". I have learn much about texturing since then and I believe this is a major improvement. Less chipping, more roughness variation and more based on real examples. I'm…

Cool problem to have! Hard to read your post since it's a giant block of text. Break it up into paragraphs. Have you looked into converting the UVs into mesh space, flattening them out, then projecting onto that? The trouble is going to be how to make it seamless across UV seams. I would suggest looking into 3D procedural…
For starters, judging from your renders, your materials may not be set up correctly and I would recommend using a realtime viewer like Marmoset Toolbag. Those metal sections do not look accurate. For your metal pieces, make sure to always use a full white color on your metalness map. The plastic sections should not have…
