Ah, thanks for the context...good to know. Mostly I meant if it could display whatever the bit depth the current image was encoded in...i've become accustomed to photoshops 8/16/32 bits per channel scheme. -

4096x2160 (4K) is the cinema/projection standard (what high end projectors at theaters tend to use). 3840x2160 (UHD) is the broadcast standard and what any 16:9 display (the vast majority of displays) would use. The difference between the two is about 6% horizontally, entirely trivial for anything we would be concerned… -

For anything heavy on the CPU (such as baking, rendering, simulations, etc), Intel is the much better option. Although a lot of those tools are starting to use GPU acceleration, you'll probably save a lot more time just using Intel. DDR4 ram is set to replace DDR3 in the next year or 2, so DDR3 prices will go up a lot once… -

OK, I'm digging this up because I realised why the displacement map was coming out "stepped" when rendered with Mental Ray displacement. Basically it's because when you make a Displacement Map in ZBrush, it puts it in the Alpha palette as a 16-bit greyscale image... but then if you MakeTx on it, it converts it to 8-bit,… -
