The materials in your version and the concept seem very different. The metal in the concept looks to be aged bronze with serious verdigris. The wooden grip is a much paler wood (overall), which provides more distinction between the metal & wood. The overall feel from the concept (at least to me) is of an aged piece.
I like the kit bash / boolean approach but I cant help but wonder if its really the concept artist that would be using that approach and then passing the concept model along to the 3d modeller to be cleaned up and baked? maybe the line between concept artist and modeller will get blurred a bit by this.
Great start. Concept is awesome. Looking forward to seeing the progress. Crits so far: Building seems more narrow in your blockout than concept. The front door may need to be larger than it appears in the concept to help sell that it was built by ogres, unless that little figure is an ogre.
The openings at the front look too squared. Looking harder at the shape you see the 3d model looks like 2 half circles, where the concept has a different shape with more rounded edges at the corners. It wouldn't matter to not follow the concept but I think that it looks better in the concept.
Looking quickly at your concept, I've noticed an issue with your windows. Presently, your windows are flat with the wall surface. Look carefully are the concept, you will notice that they are recessed into the wall. I'm not sure how closely you are looking to follow the concept, but your proportional relationships are all…
this ^ It's just a weird concept. If I can't visualize the concept art as a 3d environment then I lose interest in it pretty quickly. This concept doesn't really work as a 3d environment if you ask me. However that's just my opinion, maybe someone will be able to turn this into a beautiful 3d scene :)
Yes, an illustration(s) of a concept outlined in a design document. The concept would not be the artist's. However while the design document would lay out the rough concept, it needs to look better than a shoe box with a few protrusions, so a good deal of talent would be required none the less.
yes Once you get good at something you realise that only a very small part of what makes you good is the mechanical part of doing it, The vastly more important factor is the choices you make before and while you do it. There are lots of very good illustrators and comparatively few very good concept artists because being a…
