I wasn't talking about you guys giving advice here in this thread. Was talking about the need to question what they may be learning in tutorials or just reading on the internet in general. Because in the initial post there was something like "I won't do such and such (extremely common practice) because that's bad" Looks…
Hard to say, because what they allow you to show doesn't leave you much room to show what is important to art directors, just the first layer of PR or recruiters. Beauty shots will get you past the initial guys and could get you an interview, at which point you will have the opportunity to show your whole portfolio.
I am using xnormal to bake them.. everything comes out fine, but the arms are projecting onto the wings.. i am not sure how the cages work. I initially used max for baking (the maps came out fine there), but as i had to decimate the model to get it into max, it lost some detail, so i wanted to do it in xnormal.
Problem fixed! I had a constant in the Material Editor multiplying the texture sample by 25 times to make the snow look thicker, I removed it and DBA works fine now! I changed the values in the Initial Colour to get the thick snow back. Seems to be working fine now. How should I connect the Pixel Depth to the material?
Finally got around to reworking this thing. Started with some atlases, and I'll rebuild from here. Got a lot of initial geometry to go off of. Might look vastly different, depending on what kind of story I try and tell. Lots of options. Looking forward to any feedback as I progress forward. About to start replacing this…
Thanks for the paintover Broadway! It's proving to be very helpful. Here's the progress so far. I've got the initial AO bake applied. It has a few problems I'll be troubleshooting along with trying to get a better light setup. I still haven't touched the chimney texture yet. I think the little things are going to drive me…
Yeah, that's pretty much my experience in a nutshell, although my degree program wasn't on games as much as it was computer animation as a whole. The only difference was the career advisor (at least for us in the animation program) was VERY helpful if you were one of those students that showed initiative. It's sad to see…
Finished UV mapping and decided to attempt a more clean, simple look. Made the coloring even more depressing than I initially concepted, hehe. Only got a few more days left, I hope I can finish! The basket fringes and ferns are going to need another going-over I think, they clash a little.
Thanks! This is still very much WIP and as still a lot to go. most of the hippo is made of different parts and not a complete and whole mesh , i´m just posting as i go along. And yes i´ll try to place the glasses a bit closer, my initial idea was to accent the "old professor look" thus the glasses so far.
My initial reaction is that it "this cheapens the market". However after talking to a couple of artists that use the service it's seems like more of an introduction. First asset is $5, and if you want more gotta make a typical freelance contract. I don't know if that's the websites intention, but that's how it's being…
