Not sure if it's the right solution, but you didn't mention that you tried this. Customize | Show UI | Show Ribbon This should turn on the ribbon toolbar that holds the graphite tools. Also, double check you have an Editable Poly object selected.
I feel naked if I try to animate without aTools. Been following animbot progress and the last 2 features I need before removing aTools is this motion trail and the align objects to selected. The UI is amazing, it is such a great toolbar.
You can just bind the right-hand-side toolbar menu that has texture info on it, inluding the reload button, to a key. Then you won't have to have that annoying little menu with one button on it cluttering up your screen.

If you have to call it several time, you can drag and drop the text onto a toolbar. It will create a macroscript and a button for it. Clean way is to make the macroscript yourself, with category and stuff. Look at some .mcr to see how it's done, it isn't hard.
You should have a folder in 'my documents' called 'world machine documents' in that folder there is a macro folder. Put it in the macro fodder. Then in WM click 'macros>open macro' then check the macros you want available and click 'update selected to toolbar'.
@Octo - I totally agree! What I've done to combat this is to put backface masking and wrap right next to my brush toolbar so that its always in my face to help prevent me from accidently brushing without em.

Thanks for the ideas for improvements. We hope to add them soon. Meanwhile, you can try changing the object color by pressing the last button in the toolbar, 'show with alternate colors'. Also turning the edges on, 'show wireframe', can emphasize the silhouette.
You may need to set up the brush options in Photoshop to make the pressure sensitivity affect Opacity (it defaults to only have pressure affecting Size of the brush tool) The options for the pressure sensitivity should be along the top toolbar, near the right.
