Is it possible that the new version has Keyboard Shortcut Override turned off? It's the button in the main toolbar that looks like a box/key with a up arrow on it. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-C14C1D13-0E8E-4471-9671-077FDFB156C8-htm.html
I use the X Y Z buttons in the Editable Poly tools, which aligns your selection to the world, then snap the aligned verts to the lowest one with the regular snap... It's super slow compared to how I do it in Maya. :( I think there are some alignement scripts that alow you to do it a bit faster though...
Ha, this is true mark, but even still i was never that blown away by half life2, though i did really like the sections of the game with the place-able turrets and hunting down stalkers in the car. If they'd expanded on those and added... haha I'll stop, we need a post 4 years ago button.

Maps used for the board: Doing the actual deck itself was fun, found most of the information came from the normal's more than anything, ended up using knald to get a nice carbon normal to overlay, its quite subtle but adds a nice effect, as well as using that amazing low poly AO button.
normalise will only work when making an indivual poly fit the uv space if you want a whole object to be split into polys and then fitted to the space then select the polys (in face mode) then while still in face mode hit unitize - although some will probably be flipped or rotated but that can easily fixed with the snapped…
About the magenta/pink issue: there is a high probability it comes from the default shader set in the user_project. To fix that: - go to the Preferences / Project - click on the User project - scroll down to the 3D View group / Default Shader - Click on the "arrow" button to reset it to default - Click OK - restart SD Now…
In my screen shot there are two scale buttons on the upper tool bar. (Ignore the red box.) The first is time scale (horizontal), and the other is value scale (vertical). The time scale is relative to the timeslider (blue bar). When you turn on vertical scale an orange line will appear. The vertical scale will be relative…
Make sure you are at the 'Parent' level of the material when you apply it to your object. If you are in the normal bump section it will come out like that. There is a button in the material editor that is 'go to parent' click that until you can't click no more, then apply the material. In your baking options make sure the…
ok- can you see the mirror plane? if no - things are in the wrong place, like your mesh related to your bind pose is it in the middle where it should be? no? see above have you stopped working with envelopes and tried using the vertex buttons instead? no? trust me - envelopes are the devils work. weight everything manually
