In regards to the heat shield, I've extruded some faces outward to create thickness but in modo it creates open edges where as in maya I can extrude a face to create a solid box I wonder if anyone can help me with this? Also how would I low poly somthing like this?
Good point! :) I'll make it more narrow. I like how the extrude works in the realtime so I won't get rid of that (anyway that will save me ~20 tris which is just 600 tris less a second for the engine to render). The idea to extrude it more is nice. I'll definitely try that! :) Thanks.

Basically the easiest thing to do is to remember how far out you extruded/beveled the teeth (or measure it) and then create a copy and extrude it inwards by negative the amount. i usually create a curve with cv curve tool and a nurbs circle and then go surfaces > extrude. i have extrude set at: tube at path component profile normal curve range: complete output geomtery: polygons tess meth: control points then you will be able to control the mesh with your curve. hope that helps
Does anyone know how extruding from curves works properly in xsi? I draw out my curve and try to extrude that curve. I cant figure out how to make the curve smaller like i can in max. In max i can make it round or rectangular etc inside max but dont know how to accomplish this in xsi. Thanks

You can plop a shell modifier on but I used extrude. Let me know what you end up coming up with. I attempted to spline along the shape for the inner star shape, but wasn't completely successful.
