what fletch said, the edges are way too sharp. rdmlegend: That looks like a subd mesh... so the additional geo is for the edge control -

It's looking great, but the top and bottom bricks near the edges seem to fade instead of having a sharp defined edge like the rest of the bricks. -

Looking good! The one thing that jumps out to me are your highpoly edges are really really sharp, and the edges are falling apart in unreal. -

The pivot point is on the grid. The actual piece is slightly smaller than the grid. Also the beveled/rounded edge helps define the edges and gap.
