"THIS LIGHTSABER IS TOTALLY DANGEROUS AND UNREALISTIC! Now excuse me while I watch this midget space wizard levitate an FTL capable fighter out of a swamp." You guys are being ridiculous.
If you talk about megascan, it makes more than 2 years now... isn't there a possibility to share in other way ? Maybe create a topic and share by zipping xml and other files ?
interesting idea doing a kickstarter for your FMP, but I would check with the Uni if you haven't already just in case this breaks any rules concerning making money with assignment material.
Fbx - because it works and everything supports it. I like collada if I'm going to be fiddling around inside files as it's xml based and thus easy to add/extract/change things with code.
I'm sure you'd have an easy time with FL studio so long as you already understand composition. I know I enjoyed my 3 month run with it FL studio gets a bad wrap because its generally easy to use (so alot of noobs get ahold of it and make sub-par music) but if you know what you're doing it works great.
Exporting all that data is not trivial. What's your goal? Do you plan to read it back in? Can you not use FBX Ascii exporter format? Or the built in Autodesk Collada XML exporter?
I don't see why you'd lose any detail. The masks are procedural and based on *.XML code - so you should be able to go up and down in resolution without any trouble. :)
