I would not use decimation for that, how many polygons has the blade? I usualy bake at 1 million or 2 million polys. Plus it looks that your blade has a 180º Smoothing, Split the blade were the Sharp edge is, to split the blade in 2 halfs. and then add smoothings of 45 or 60º it will look more white, instead of looking all… -

I used Maya Paint Effects for hair for my Sam character and it only translated to about 60k tris, which was quite manageable and easy to convert, so I'm not sure if Max has anything similar to PFX that you could play with. If you have a laptop check out it's power brick, if it says: "INPUT: AC 100V - 240V, 50/60Hz" then all you need is an adaptor since the brick can handle the 220v at 60Hz you'll get in Korea. -

Thanks everyone for trying to help. Exercise didn't get rid of my pain but it did give me more energy which helped. yeap like everyone said- spec map needs some lovin. also I`m not sure about 12800 tris. Seems a bit steep but I could be wrong. I know charachters in UT3 run the 6000-8000 range it seems as if thats as "next gen" as it gets right now. I`d say on your next project try a nd hit a lower poly count. Super kickass otherwise.… -

Yep it's not just you. I show a framerate that is twice as bad (or greater) in max 2010 vs max 2008. A 600K scene at 23 FPS shows 11FPS in 2010. I'm sticking with max 2008 and polyboost I think. Max 9 & 2008 are identical in performance for me.
