I know its standard to use powers of 2, but what is the reasoning? Besides applications that refuse to work with non powers of 2. Something to do with binary and pixel efficacy?

Small tweeks to shell number 2. Fixes to the transition areas making them softer. Redoing the top to make it more complex. Overview of shell 1 and 2 HP.
The weights that were used to tell where to smooth the normals could have been reused in a simple alpha blending between the 2 textures or 2 offset values as well.
